    hi!

im trying to transfer videos from a DV camcorder to my PC using firewire. I have tried using Nero Vision and Windows movie maker for capturing the video, but they kind of "eat" or omit several frames of the movie, making it unviewable

why is this happening? somebody knows how to fix this???

    thanks

Dropping frames is a system performance issue.

Make sure that your CPU is powerfull enough and the you have enough RAM. If the system itself is OK, make sure that you don't have many other processes running in the background. Do a reboot before you start capturing to make sure that programs that you started before did not leave rubbish behind. You can also check if you have many programs that start up automatically when you boot through MSCONFIG.
Maybe using WinDV for capturing already solves the problem, because running that does not take any system resources.

Another possibility is your hard drive. It may be not fast enough or it is almost full or it is fragmented too much (in this last case: defragment it). Also, the best is to use a secondary hard drive (other than the drive where the operating system and your programs resied) to capture your movies to.
