    Hello :)
I'm having problems with several different encoder/burner programs.

DVDSanta encoded and burned one disc just fine for me, but then when I went to add files to the next one, it kept telling me it was unable to add that file - it would add some and not others, etc. The next day (now), it adds these files just fine, and I can't get it to repeat the error, and I don't remember the exact message (sorry!). I'm also not terribly fond of it because I want to create menus.

AVS video tools seemed to only be letting me put 1-2 episodes on a disc, which seemed a bit ridiculous considering dvdsanta had just let me put 6 on a disc. I also wanted to be able to customize my menus further than this lets you...if you know how to make it give you more choices, let me know :)

The biggest problem I've had is convertxtodvd. I adore it - I can create really awesome menus and encoding seems fast and then it gets to the burn stage and completely dies. I can't even shut it down through the task manager, through applications or processes. Doesn't freeze up anything in the rest of my computer, just won't burn and won't go away. I can't even rescue the log because it won't open from the taskbar. Ok, I figure, I've got my video_ts file, I'll burn it using imgburn, which I've used before. I make the iso with no problems and then during the verify sectors part of burning there are, I believe transcoding errors (it said that sector x did not map) - I did get 9 seconds of disc burned, and ironically enough, it was the very pretty menu I made with ConvertXToDVD. The menu didn't do anything but it was there.

If anyone can tell me why some of these problems are happening and if there's anything I can do to fix it I would be forever grateful - I had a verrrry long night with convertxtodvd last night.

Hey, is the episode you are trying to backup playable on the laptop??? If it is I would just use WinAVI. Its a great program for converting avi, mpeg, and other video formats to dvd. You can also burn using WinAVI but I would just use Nero Burning ROM. See how it goes. If you don't reply I would guess that it works =I Well heres the link*:

    http://www.winavi.com/en/download/download.htm

    *Download the WinAVI Video Converter

    Hi,

Can you be more specific on your burning issues with ConvertXtoDVD ?

    Provide burn logs please.

I do not have any issues with VSO's Burn Engine.

DVD Santa may not support the format of the file. Check DVD Santa's manual to see supported formats and see if the format of the file your adding is supported.

AVS Video Tools in my opinion is a bit useless as it does essentially what many other freeware tools do but it's not free. Don't bother with it.

If I were you, I'd try DVD Flick, it's free, supports many formats, gives you virtually the same features as ConvertXtoDVD (including menus as of 1.3.00), but it's free. It also allows for higher quality movies as you can set your bitrate manually to cram in as much quality as possible into every DVD (something you can do with ConvertX).

As for ConvertXtoDVD, don't burn your converted files with it (Options> Burning Tab> Untick the Burn Result to DVD box) try burning your files with another, more robust burning program like Img Burn which is also free. Use the "Build Mode" function in Img Burn.
    Or again try DVD Flick.

    Hope this helps.
