I recently replaced my 8 screw cover on my PS2 for a flip top. When I started playing anything, it made this horrific scratching nose and sounded like it was destroying the disc. So I read up and I replaced the white piece on the flip top. It started working fine and then about 50 minutes into a movie it started going nuts and it now makes a constent clicking noise and will not play. I am running out of options and just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas or has had this problem.

Yes theres a littl latch at the back that you need to make sure the disc is under or it will result in scratched disks and worse still laser,
its pretty hard to understand but if you open up the PS2 lid and look closely at the back when putting a disc in you'll understand.
