Hi, I'm new here and this looked like the right spot to get help. I've searched around the forums and seen people with similar problems... but the solutions I found was not working

    This is my situation:

My girlfriend has her birthday tomorrow, along with other things I wanted to burn some dvd's for her with different things on them. Nero has always worked fine until some month ago when I recieved

    "Illegal disc"
"Could not perform start of Disc-at-once"

at the time I did not bother trying to fix it, instead I tried over 7 other burning programs and NONE worked. I began thinking I had a virus or something... but can't find anything. So I re-installed Nero yesterday and wow! a normal CD worked ( I tried to burn a mp3 file and it worked fine) so I was happy... and today when I tried burn a DVD the errors returned. Here is the log

and your nero is out of date, you might consider upgrading to 6.6.0.18, the most stable version of the 6 series

I've used some newbie guide to put my DMA on, I did the steps and now it look like this

    CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On
    DiskPeripheral : ST3250823AS 3.01 viamraid Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off

I don't know what the second thing is, but I know that NEC DVD_RW is my only dvd burner. I still get the same error as before though

    Hi Wish
The generic drives listed as virtual drives so no need to worry about DMA on them.
You hard drive looks like it's on a Raid controller - so DMA may not be an issue.
Your firmware can use an update - it's a bit behind :). The latest is 1.0C. Here's a link:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1517
This should help your drive recogize the Sony's better. The firmware helps the drive with write strategies on media.
It's an older drive and hopefully the firmware will do the trick for you.
To update the Nero to 6.6.0.18 - here's some links for package 1 & package 2 (recode and vision):
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Try this and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise!

Oh and edit out your serial # in your log above - it begins w/ 1A23. Don't need someone else using it.

almost forgot - Hey guyrus ;)
