I must convert XviD to DivX for my Sony DVD player to be able to play it.
Occasionally after converting I lose lip sync and someone was kind enough to explain using Media Player Classic and Virtual Dub to solve this problem.

Now I have run into a few files that start out in sync and get progressively out of sync as the film goes on. Is their any soloution to this problem?

    Thanks

For progressive sync errors, try loading the file in VirtualDub.
Click 'Video' => 'Direct Stream Copy' => 'Frame Rate..' => Under 'Source rate adjustment', if the FPS are different as shown below, check the button to make the video and audio match.
Click 'File' => 'Save as AVI'

Many thanks for your helpful reply.

Do you know of any way I can use Virtual Dub to make my original conversion from XviD to DivX and avoid these sync problems?

Have you tried the 4cc converter to change the file header to DivX?
There is no actual re-compression of the file.
Some players are looking for this information even though XviD and DivX are functionally the same.
