I have a file with the extension mpg that i have tried to burn to dvd with no joy, have created dvd with other mpg files with no problem so i know is not something i am doing. I have put the file through gspot and it comes back as unsupported file and advised that the file is a wma / wmv file. If this is correct and the file format is wrong then is it possible that the file has some kind of protection on it and if so is there anyway round it so as to burn it to a vcd or dvd to play in my stand alone player. The file plays perfect in windows media player although it wont let me forward or reverse it. Any help appreciated.
There would not be any protection on a Mpeg file because Mpeg does not support it but WMV/ASF Files do support Protections but if it was Protected you would not be able to Watch the file without entering a Password..And you Can just burn any Mpeg file to DVD, The Mpeg file has to be DVD compliant meaning have a specific resolution and a specific Bitrate and Frame rate and audio Sample Rate and format, Unless you are useing one of them lame do it all Programs that encode and author the DVD all in the Same Program....Maybe you can try Changeing the Extention to WMV or ASF and then see if you can encode it to Mpeg2/dvd with an encoder Like Tmpgenc....._X_X_X_X_X_[small]It"s better to be Pissed Off than Pissed On!!![/small]
Cracked It, Every thing i used fell over, found a program called MPEG4 Direct Maker and this converted no problem then create a dvd. Cheers for the advice
Mpeg4 direct maker makes Mpeg4 Files Not Mpeg2 files for DVD...Mpeg4 is the Same as DivX and Xvid and is in the AVI Container format so will not work for authoring directly to DVD.....
Yes, I used this to convert it from its previous format which as you know i was unsure of and then split the streams and used ifoedit to create a dvd, quality is a bit rough and will try to tweak it up when i get more time using tmpgenc or similar. Cheers
