Reformat your hard drive. If you had bought any games from the PSN you are allowed to redownload them for free for only a certain number of times. All you game save data needs to be taken out somehow too if you want to keep it.

    That's what I would do.

..yeah i know that ...but when i unboxed it and evrything...got it hooked up i checked my software verision and i also saw taht i had 37gbs/37gbsthen once i updated it i was left with 28gbs/37gbs...since i've put all my music (800mbs) put on some demoslike around 3-4gbs and downloading another demos with 1.4gbs..the bottom line is that i still have 28gbs/37gbs left..it's kinda odd

I've kind of got the same thing on my 40gig. It says 28/37. I realize it's not actually 40gig but I was a little surprised at using up 10g for one game my girlfriend downloaded (Q-bert). Not sure what's going on.

The 40Gb H/D size is just marketing, Sony dosen't want to say 37Gb PS3, Dosen't sound as appealing.
It's just how manufactures of H/D's calculate Gb/s, they round the Gb/s off to a 1000mb/s, but a Gb is really 1024mb/s, thats where some of the Gb loss comes in.(might be wrong on this, but pretty sure it's correct)

Most of the other "missing" Gb/s are for system files, game information and saved games.

You can always just go pick up a 120 or 160 gb/s 2.5" notebook drive(make sure it's 5400rpm, no faster) and install it, takes less than 5 min's to install, re-format and re-install your saved games.
