The answer is yes to your first question. Just read back a few posts to the beginning at Moonrazer's first post, I just answered all the same questions.
You either need magic keys II or what they call the swap tool pro 2006 like this site has: http://www.ps2laser.co.uk/id22.htm
which looks the same as magic keys II. Or check out the site Moonrazer posted.

Thanks Smokey! If that's the case then I'll buy SM 3.6 and Magic Keys V3 for my V15 PS2. ^_^

If your PS2 is a 77001, then you have v16, at least according to . In that case, I would recommend purchasing the same thing I did: Swap Magic 3.8 + Magic Keys, which can be found at:

That'd work fine too. As long as the Magic Keys support your PS2 model then you're good to go. =)

Any idea what version the SCPH-79002 is? I'm guessing it'll be around V17. Also, any idea if MagicKeys or Magic Switch definitely works with this model? Cheers

Its a V18 from what I gather on the net.
Take a look inside the fliptop and see if like the picture of the V14 above. The magic keys and swap magic should work with it, but no I can't confirm it.

Well my one definitely has the metal tab as in the picture of the V14. It seems like people and manufacturers don't really care too much about the newer versions of the PS2 since its almost coming to an end. I still have the modchip solution I guess, although I really don't want to void my warranty.
    Thanks anyway.

The magic keys II or the newest swap tool pro 2006 with Swap Magic should work on your version then.

What type of PS2? Slim or FAT,with magic keys, flip-top or slide tool?
What type of media are you using? What speed are you burning at?
The more info to your posts the more help we can give.
Nero is fine to burn with, but I just always use imgburn(google it and its free)
Always burn at half speed of your media or just select 4X.
How to burn with DVD Decrypter(or Imgburn the successor of DVD Decrytper)
Good Media to use. If using DVD+R media, then change booktype to DVD-ROM before burning.

Sorry, i missed that. Shouldnt read the forums when I am tired. So do you use magic keys, fliptop or tape and tissue mod? If magic keys are you sure all parts are in place properly, or same for fliptop?
Well maybe tell us what backup it is or what errors do you get when you try to play your backup. Have any backups you burned ever worked.
Are your backups the same region as your PS2?
Here is how I do mine, start up Swap Magic, screen comes up with selections Normal, Special, BOOT etc.
I then swap for backup, and select Normal, Then select NTSC and my backup plays.

Ok then try using Imgburn to make your backup, then use Imgburn to burn it, see if that helps.
With Imgburn, you just insert your PS2 disk, select read mode and then make your ISO, then select write mode in Imgburn and burn the ISO.
And are you using magic keys II then for your slim?

Ok, so now if I read your post right. You can't download Swapmagic and expect it too work. You have to buy a retail copy of Swap Magic to work.

    Hi, 1st post.

    Here is the problem.

Asked friends if swap magic is idiot proof for playing imports. Yes they said!

PS2 won't read the DVD Swap Disc but will read the CD one. Got a replacement. Same issue still. Check my games with out trying to use the swap and it can only read the CD games now. I haven't played my PS2 in a month prior to trying the swap. Was using my PS3. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried the swap.

    I tried cleaning the laser.
    adjusting the white dial.
I have yet to try adjusting the dvd laser setting. As I heard messing up that fix could mean a need for new parts. Plus I heard doing that lowers the life of the battery.

Do I need to buy a new laser? CD games still work. Just not the dvd one. Is it just a natural thing for the laser to die out with the DVD being affected first? Do swap disc actual speed up this process. Is the swap to blame at all?
