I am going to explain this in detail for you, and hopefully it will make sense. The whole point of Swap Magic is to allow you to play backup games, so if you backup Swap Magic, you will need to boot it with an authentic Swap Magic. Otherwise, the company would have gone belly up as soon as it released the product. Think about it.

Hello everyone. I just bought a Swap Magic (Or Slide Swap) from Pandora's Cube here in Maryland if anyone has ever heard of it. The one I bought came with what looked like they were photocopied and they weren't even the right instructions. So I'm guessing it may be bootlegged but moving on. The discs run perfectly and I just got the slide card thing down. I first had the problem of not locking the tray back in place and getting a Not a Valid PS2 Disc error. Now that I lock it back in place, it briefly goes to the memory card and disc readin screen then it goes red and says "Please reinsert a PS2 disc" or something along those lines. I'm aware that I need certain kinds of DVD's and I've ised many such as Fujifilm DVD+R, Maxell DVD-R, Phillips DVD+R, and a off brand one that I should have known was not going to work. I'm not on a fliptop PS2. I've burned the games at 1x speed using DVD Decrypter perfectly. I know the burned games run because it plays on my PS2 emulator but runs at a unplayable speed with no sound. I'm refreshing the TOC with Soul Calibur 3 which is about 4.3 in size. Can someone tell me if I'm missing anything or give any suggestions?

I've been all over the forums and I've tried every suggestion I've seen. Everyone who has had my problem has gotten past it and plays backups just fine. I wonder what keeps mine from running.

Assuming your image is good, technique is good, etc. I can tell you what I would change for a more optimal chance.

    * Use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media.
    * Burn at 4x or half your hardware/media max. For this reason, I recommend 8x media.

From what I have read, you need to experiment with the type of media. I use only DVD-R and they work great, but, mine is a 39001. I have no idea about your console. I do think there is a problem in your technique though. If it says reinsert PS2 disc, that is a different problem. Did you try comparing your 'fake' I might say looking instructions to ones on the internet? need more info.

I noticed the Swap Magic 3.6 Plus says plays All PS2 backups and PS2 Imports. DOes that mean it can't play PS2 backup imports?

I will not lie to you. Please take all of my posts seriously. THey are all to the best of my knowledge. That was a disclaimer by the way.

I have very little experience in the "import" department, but I have tried it on more that one occasion. I can tell you that you can play PAL games, but...Not to my liking. I would like stretch to size screen fitting, if that makes sense. Instead, it offsets the screen so that MOST of it is visible, but it does make the constantly flashing and scrolling I guess you could call it go away. All in all, it can play them, but you're probably better off just patching your games before you play them. If they are originals, and they have a screen repositioning tool, that could help a lot.

This is all in my experience. I can not guarentee it will work that way for you. I use SM3.6 NTSC version.

    Any other questions? ;)

It's just I have been doing everything oerfectly and I can't get it to work. I've downloaded The King of Fighters Neowave which is a Japanese import. It just refuses to run along with PGEN emulator that I've burned correctly. I know the ISO's or burns are done well sicne they run on PCSX2. I've used Maxell DVD-R's and tried 3 times, still nothing. I have a feeling it's my new copy of Swap Magic. I refuse to buy Verbatim DVD's only to watch it fail once again. I will get another copy of Swap Magic before I post again. Thanks for atleast confirming it for me, Razor.

I understand....I've never tried a japanese import though. From what I have read, Japanese games are ntsc anyways, so theoretically, it should work. Now that I know this information, I can agree with you that it is probably your swap magic disks. Think about it though, if you were a company, trying to make money, would you make your swap magic discs with the highest quality available? Didn't think so....Also, I agree with your decision to not spend money on Verb discs until that is determined as the problem...I was the same way. Once you get them though, you won't want to use the crap media anymore. Good luck ;)

I re-read your post that explained your problems, and thought about it some more...It seems as if, seomthing is wrong in another part, you know what I mean? After you swap, it shouldn't go to the reading disc/memory card screen, it should just wait for you to press x. The whole point of the slide card method is to avoid detection by the ps2. If it notices, something is wrong there...AFter you push x, it should not go back to the screen, either. If anything, it should say Not a valid PS2 disc. near the bottom. That is if it will not boot. If it will boot, then it should just go to the game. Try booting anything in place of the PS2 game. Anything besides a ps2 game, dvd, etc...I suggest a cd of any type. See how it reacts.

I've done the swap trick for the hell of it and Booted Soul Calibur 3. It ran fine. It could be my friens PS2 also. I'm going to have to wait until my girlfriend comes up from college before I can try it on my own PS2 which is what I will do. I'm so down on the whole thing I almost feel nothing will work. :( I'm surely going to end up having to buy a new Swap Magic. Don't trust Pandora's Cube people! Not only did they sell me a faulty disc, but it was $40 and they have a no return policy!

i have having a problem. i have got through two batches of swap magic v3.6 and and 1 batch of swap magic v3.3. its only the dvd versions which fail me. i am left with 3 cd versions of swap magic and my dvd version all have stopped working after a while. i have scph 70000 slimline pstwo. i have tried to use the swap magic cd version to load my backups but this is how it happens. i insert swap magic cd (v3.6) and everything loads fine and i get to load program screen. i remove one of the pieces (the ones blocking the sensors) and i get 'insert bigger toc' screen. i insert an original ps2 (i doont know how to check toc and i dont know what is classed as a high toc) and i put the sensor back in its place and the disc spins and the load program screen comes back up except with a little blue message at the bottom 'not valid ps2 disc'. the disc doesnt stop spinning so i while iits spining i attempt to remove it and put in back up game. it still continues to spin and i press x button on load program. the screen flashes red (like my dvd version use to do befor loading a game) and then the screen goes black for about 2 seconds and it takes me back to the screen showing my two memory cards.
cany anybody help me (RAZOR maybe.)
    thanks in advance.

I have never had any problem booting with DVD version, so I have not attempted with CD version, DVD backup...I can, however, test that sometime for you. I can also tell you how to check TOC and what a 'large' TOC would be. To check TOC sizes, simply insert an original pressed PS2 disc into your computer's DVD drive, and open 'My Computer'. Right click the drive with the disc in it and hit properties. It should show you size, this is the TOC size. They can range from 1 or 2 GB to 4 times that, depending on the game and format. The maximum size for a single layer is 4.37, i believe. Anyways, just use the largest of your PS2 games, that should work fine. I'll try ot find a way to boot with CD here in the next couple of days for you...Play around with the TOC check in the meantime ;)

Hi. My slimline PS2 gets stuck at the "Load Program" screen when I try to use swap magic 3.6 HELP!!! I don't think it's the backup disc - I never get that far. It doesn't go to a "Insert PS2 Disc", so I'm assuming the Magic Switch Tools have been inserted properly. The original game discs work fine. Any other "trouble shooting" ideas? Is there anything that I've missed? I am trying to get this going by Christmas and there's only 9 days left!!!

In reference to the guy who made a backup of Prince of Persia and had it be choppy; I used to be able to use my backups perfectly until recently. Then I realized that the only thing I was doing differently involved the type of DVD's I was using for the burns.

    So...

1.) Make sure you're pushing your PS2 tray all the way back in after swapping discs.
2.) Try a different type of DVD. I used a name brand instead of a generic, and that's when my problems began...

Also, to answer someone elses question up there, Swap Magic 3.6 does play PS2 backup imports.

Nurse, you say it gets stuck at the Load Program screen? After you get to that screen, can you move the cursor, or change the language? Or does it completely lock up? Also, have you tried ejecting the tray? Does the Refresh TOC screen pop up, or no?
