i'm a klutz and always scratch my cd's so i'm making backups of my ps2 games. i'm new to all this and have some concerns. i did a forums search on pstwo laser damage, but didn't find too much. should i be worried about this? i'm using swap magic 3.6 and slim tools. can i get verification that i should be using +R's for the pstwo (slim)? i've never used +R's in my life, so i'm curious. am i working down the right path here? thanks.
I had my V4 ps2 chipped for over 2 years no Problems till 2 months ago with the laser. Slowly the backups(not being originals) put a strain on the laser to read it. Lasers are about 35 quid on ebay if u want to replace but ps2s are coming cheap now. Now I got a new pstwo with SM3.5 PRO. I use DVD-R Datawrite Yellow and they're cheap and work well.
i use Philips 8X DVD-R for all my games, and +R for all my movies DVD Decrypter, which you can get in the software section here is the best program for doing games. DVD Shrink would be my choice for movies, also free I have had my slim PSTwo for about 8 months now and have no problems. Then again i got a DMS4 Pro chip and Summone laser fix in my so i would not expect any. My old V7 has been playing back ups for years now with Swap Magic and it has not gone bad yet. If it does i will surely shell out the extra cash and buy another premodded slim ($265) Well worth the extra $100 over retail ($150) because of the chip and laser fix.
thanks for the info. i agree that a hundo over retail for a premium chip and laser fix is well worth it. i had store credit at a retail chain, and i don't think they sell modded (maybe i should have asked). i'm familiar w/Dvd Decryptor & DvdShrink. i actually just picked up some +R's and i have -R's sitting around as well. although it looks like you guys have slims and -R's work well, i'll test with +R's too. is my burner a factor?
