Wow thank you for such the fast repsonse....glad to hear that is the most likely suspect...thanx so much
After 2 weeks of waiting and $13.xx U.S. plugged in new cable today and still have the problem....I am fresh out of idea's on what could be causing this to keep reseting...I got mad and ripped out the reset/eject cable completely and the tray was still ejecting lol. So it has nothing to do w/ the cable. There has to be some sort of sensor/switch/plug that actually gives the tray the power to open and close. Thnx for the suggestion waleedwc I do appriciate the help -=] .... any other suggestions?
Hmmm, sorry about that, but dont worry it isnt the end of the world, and i will try to help u sort the problem out. First of all it might be that the cd tray is a bit dislodged, so when you turn the ps2 on, the tray has been pushed in a little bit when it was in the open position so it is off the track, i dont currently have a bulky PS2 so i cant tell you directly, but i can help you fix this problem, all you need to do is take a picture of the DVD drive from a close view with the cover of the drive removed and the tray out. You can upload the image to photobucket.com and add the link up here. If you cant get a picture taken let me know i will try and get one of someone.
Yah that was my first assumption ... so i took it off the track and reset it.....so i dont believe thats what is causing it...what exactally do you mean about the picture....just take a close up picture of the tray when its out?
So you have re-aligned the tray already, if you have done that then that isnt the problem, just make sure nothing is obstructing the gears or something inside the drive. Eject the drive and turn the console of from the back, so the tray doesnt go back in, then open up the console, and remove the screws from the drive and take a close up view of the drive.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I cleaned the track and it is now working perfectly, now if one of you could just fix my game cube lol
A co-workers ps2 (30001 model) had the tray open recently and someone bumped it closed. The tray hasnt worked properly since. Tried cleaning and visually inspecting it but cant see anything out of place. I tested it while the inner cover was off and would work at times if I placed my thumb and index fingers at the back of the whole tray department and pulled slightly towards the center. On those rare occasions it worked, midway through the opening stage, I would hear a grinding noise. The co-worker took it home and now the tray wont close all the way nor will it open all the way. He will bring it to work in a few days and i want to have some knowledge on what to do then. I will try the unhinging of the tray. I also have the swapmagic tool that I might try to unlock the tray, just to see if that will align. Is this problem different from what has been discussed in this thread? If it is different, then is there any suggestions on how iy can be fixed?
I would try to realign the tray using the same method that we used in this thread. Try removing the tray and pressing the eject button. If the mechanism still moves, then there is hope for you yet.
i'm having the same problem as puffdank. i installed a DMS4 ezi. unhooked all the ribbons for the CD room then pluged them all back in (i assume) correctly. yet, for some reason, the eject button just flashes and opens, closes, and then opens again. then it just kinda stops and chills there... open. if anyone could help me it'd be greatly appreciated as to i've waiting 2 weeks for this mod chip and i'm dyyyyying to play back-ups.
