wouldn't the 12 volt PC fan overload the 5.18V usb port? how did you get the power from the usb port? can you show us some pictures of where you can get the power from, or atleast briefly explain? this would be greatly appreciated. I want to replace my noisy fan too=)

The fans were from ebuyer costing about £1:50 for the Blue LED Fan and £1 For the plain Black fan

    Blue Led fan

    Plain Black Fan

I modded it and ran the PS2 for well over a hour and no problems so i take it the PS2 has enough power

(I made a laptop cooler Using 4x 120mm Blue Led Fans that uses 1 USB)
each fan takes uses 0.17amp (80mm Blue Led Fan)

Here is how you do it
1 Take of the bottem cover
2 undo 1 screw from the top PICTURE 1
3 take off the Metal plating PICTURE 2
4 look at the bottem right near the usbs and use a multi tester to test the voltage while the ps2 is on PICTURE 3
    5 solder the 2 wires PICTURE 3
6 Thread the 2 cables to the other side of the PS2 PICTURE 2, PICTURE 5, PICTURE 4,
7 cut hole in the case by chain drilling or dremel
    8 fix fan on
9 connect fan using molex PICTURE 6
    10 Put PS2 Back Together

lol ok its a lot bigger the bigger the fan the less sound it makes

My computer has 4x 120mm Fans Running at 5 Volts
    1x CPU Fan Akasa 3400+ (80mm) 12 Volts
    2x 80mm Fan for PSU
    1 Thermaltake GPU Fan

Its noisy till the Thermal Take Fan is not running when the system is almost silent after the Thermal take fan is off

I am considering of puting 2 Hard Drive Coolers on
    was
    [IMG]
after 80mm Led Fan running at 5 Volts to keep it quite

thanks for the help! are there bendable cold cathode lights out there? the reason why i'm asking is because i want to put a ring of light around the cd tray, giving the impression of a disc. this would illuminate the tray, showing off the cd spinning inside ;).

I want to do something like this:

    Hi

Is it safe to get power from the USB Ports. I mean does the PS2 operate normally?

    Thanks

Oh, so that circular light is just simply the cold cathode taken out of an 80mm fan, right?

eternalis: according to Darren987, the USB port supplies power without causing any noticeable problems.

Doing a search I came across one place that has a wicked light. http://www.xoxide.com/lightedfans.html / Spiral Cold Cathode Fan (Blue)Light's like these could be carefully mounted inside to the casings(To the case itself). Maybe putting a Split connection. That way you could always unconnect the wires if needed. pctoys/coolerguys need to lower there prices a bit. http://www.xoxide.com/lightedgrills.html Think I'll order me the UV round grill $7.99 not bad.

    Hi

I now know that you can run a light of the USB port, but how about the optical port or network one?

    Thanks

It Might not be possible for the network port or the Optical port but i think you can drag 12 Volt or 5 Volt from the Hard Drive by soldering the cables that is the only way i can think

the optical port Runs on a LED i think and the network port is not for power its more for data so i think best bet is the Hard drive

if you dont want to take the risk of ruining/damaging your ps2 while modding it, you can buy the light mods from ebay or anywhere else

I'm also pretty sure the firewire could be used.I have the new slim PStwo so I can't use the HDD or the firewire, still I suppose the USB is good if you don't use more than one USB device or if you don't use any.

Yeah XshredX the cold cathode light is just one taken off one of the 80mm Fan or Fan Guard. :) Check out the http://www.xoxide.com/lightedfans.html They have 12v hook ups. going into the converter and coming out 5v+ for the light. same as the straight tube cathodes. check out the El Wire. You might find that one intresting as well http://www.xoxide.com/elwire.html
