Hello! First time poster here... Ok, I put in a new 3170 laser in my PS2 Slim. I took care of the Anti-Static solder as best I could. Now the laser wont light up, although the lens moves up and down as if it were trying to help the laser focus. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance
If your sure you desoldered it correctly, then make sure you connected the ribbon cables properly. If they aren't connected properly it won't light up.
There are still bits of solder on the unit.. but it doesnt seem as though the connections are touching. The ribbon cable seems to be pushed all the way in... Im not sure. I can try to de solder again.. can I hurt the unit with a solder gun?? I mean, can I heat the unit up too hot by where I need to remove the solder?? Or is that area pretty safe from that amount of heat?
If your using desoldering braid which is what I use, and you have the soldering gun pretty hot, it shouldn't take much too remove it. Youtube video - link Just watch it, you get the idea. YOu shouldn't hurt anything then.
Ah, thanks for the braid idea. I had a bit just bubble up in the end of the gun so I wiped that off.. I will find some braid and see what happens?
