I have just placed a new lid on my ps2, but now it wont spin any disks. When I place a disk in it, it just starts and goes to the browser scene, is there anything I can do? thanks
sounds 2 me like yve upset the ribbon cable on the laser. Ive done it many times & this is exactly what the console does. Boots the disc makes a feeble atempt at spinning(moves maybe 1/16th, > 1/8th of a revolution) then stops. If u release the ribbon cable (slide the clip back [on both sides of the cable]), pull the ribbon cable out of the laser , replace it , now push the clip back in(both sides), making sure that the ribbon cable does NOT move while yr doing the clip up. Give it a go. If u want pix, I have 'em
I'm having the same problem, and with my other cover on, the disc reads just fine. Could you possiby post up these pictures you're talking about on adjusting the ribbon? I figured this would be an easy swap... obviously not.
edwardzb yr console sounds like yve crimpted the power/reset ribon cable (the 1 thats attached when u take the top of the console away from the bottom of the console). It is quite normal 4 these cables 2 break inside the actual ribbon I.E. if u move the cable slightly 1 way or the other the machine will work. Needs a new power /reset ribbon cable. They cost approx $5 > $15 depends who u buy it from. Heres a link http://www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/hk-ps2-cblee.html vinividivici
In response to Dix_Fix... If it were the ribbon cable being broke, wouldn't it not read a disc at all? I didn't think the slim PSTwo had this cable that was hooked both to the top and the lower portion of the casing. At least when I took it off (separated the top from the bottom) it didn't appear to have this. Anyways, apparently the issue was that the backside of the cover wasn't pressed down far enough, not sure how this happened. I was just messing around and decided to press firmly on the backside of the PSTwo after switching it on. Suddenly it started to read my discs with the flip-top cover installed. So I loosened up the back screws underneith the case and pressed the top portion of the case firmly down, then retightened the screws. This seemed to have fixed the issue, and I was able to successfully burn my first back-up last night, and PLAY IT TOO. This forum is a dream for any newbie like myself. Thanks for all the help guys.
Sorry my bad, but nowhere did u say it was a v12(slim). When u said u got a fliptop i naturally assumed u had a PS2 not a PSTwo(slim). I could not ever see why u would need to buy a fliptop for a V12 when they r fliptop. All u need 2 mod em is slimTool or magic switch + the SwapMagic 3.3/3.6. I have V12 (SlimTool+SMD3.3) works great. No need 4 a fliptop Great 2 hear u got it going. Nothing feels better than playing yr first copy, is there? Doesnt even matter if its a crap game.
