I opened my ps2 slim (v12) and i powered it one with a disc on the spindle. It did what i said in the topic or rather didnt do, it wouldnt spin and showed no data. Would replacing the laser assembly work or do i need to replace the entire drive? I still have to check my model number, it is pvr802w so its a mitsumi correct? but i would like to buy everything at once to repair it. If there is anything else i need to let you all know ill try and get the info to you. Oh and i tried testing the drive with two games, psone digimon digibattle card game (black) and dbzbudokai (silver). thanks sith.
the door/lid has to be closed, there are switchs in there. if you don't have the door closed then you have to spoof the switchs to make it think the door is closed. if you have both switches spoofed (or the lid closed) and you still get a no data and the disc doesnt spin then the laser isnt seeing the disc, could be the disc so try another one and if that doesnt work then it's most likely the lens dirty, shot or out of adjustment kc
alright it displays disc cannot be read when i try any type of media. ill try cleaning it but if that doesnt work ill just get a new laser but i read that i also need a pcb to fix the laser so it doesnt burn out. would a new laser need this? and i read that the v12 can melt when it overheats (something it likes to do apparently) so is there even a point in fixing it? thanks.
yes all V12's (even unmodded ones) need a laser fix installed. as to weather it's worth fixing or not, that is your call. kc
it's a combination of things and to credit Sony (minimally) it's an honest mistake with a new product (the slim). with new discs (which is what they use during their testing) that don't have scratches/smudges/lint/finger prints/etc....... on the disc they work perfect, it's when the laser has a difficult time reading the disc (from one of the above mentioned reasons) that the LA over drives the focus coils in an attempt to be able to read the disc. with the slim console they were more concerned with it's elimination of the ability to play games off the harddrive (no network adapter to plug one into) then thorough testing of the laser with worn/damaged discs. kc
My ps2 games really dont have any of the mentioned problems though a used game might have a scratch because someone was careless. Thanks for your help with this. Ill probably fix it with a new laser and a fix after i read up some more on this though i could just use the hd to run my games if they are supported.
I have been having the same problem with my slim Ps2. If I press down on the cover, the disc loads, but can mess up in the middle of the game/dvd. I'm not sure whether or not it is the lens or the cover.
@ sith113 Is your ps2 modded? If not, you'll have to find someone with experience in soldering to solder the "laser fix" onto the ps2 main ckt board. If not, you could risk screwing up even more. I used to have the same problem as you and it is very rare that the ps2 slim will come back alive. Not to discourage u or anything, but the ps2 problem normally spread one thing to another. The fix to get is "Comsoft" @ Daitro Was your ps2 been opened? If it is, try to open it again and put everything back in place and secure it. Make double sure that everything snap back like it's suppose to be. If your ps2 has not been opened, there's a possibility that your situation is exactly like sith113, you'll need to get the "fix" in there as well.
ya my spin wheel wont spin at all but the laser move, and lights up and everything got any advice? thanks!
