Hey everyone I recently installed a fliptop on my slim line PS2 but my swap magic wont load. I have version 2.0, I guess its too old. I've tried loading a loading a burned copy of 3.8 and tyring to boot it from the CD version but that didnt work either. Do I have any other options?

Did the Swap Magic 2.0 load before you put the flip top on?

To make sure the flip top is installed properly, place a disk in the PS2, start it up, then open the flip top while the disc is spinning.

If the disc keeps spinning, then its installed correctly.

Well if it read on your FAT, it should read on the slim

Is the slim laser in good shape. It reads other Original PS2 discs fine?

I don't know if it doesn't read, you may want to upgrade to 3.6 or 3.8

They offer that on the Swap Magic Site. Whether they stand by it, I couldn't say for sure.

    Yeah don't blame you there.

WEll you could try cleaning your laser lens, then seeing you had problem playing DVD9

Use Rubbing Alcohol and a q-tip. Clean in a circular motion for about 30 secs.
Then dry with other end for about 6-8 secs.

I found the problem. Although I cleaned the lens, the PS2 fails to recognize DVD9 discs. This is why some PS2 and SW CD version works fine and some DVD movies. This was a problem before I modded, I read somewhere that some slim line PS2s had trouble playing God Of War 2 because it was DVD9. Sure enough when I put in my GoW2 it didnt work. This problem is random it work sometimes and then it doesnt. oh well

I'm thinking about buying a replacement laser, I saw one on eBay for $8...would allow my PS2 to read DVD9 again?

Yes a new laser will allow you to read all games again.

Now in case you didn't know a new laser has anti-static points on it that need to be de-soldered.

YOu can do it yourself or ask the seller to remove them for you.

It is not hard.. you need to have desoldering braid and a solder gun.

I am sure there is tutorial somewhere, or google on how to desolder.

I have had to do some myself, but some Ebay sellers have removed it for me.

Just ask them before you buy. Send them a question.
