I just softmodded my PS2 with an 80GB Hard Drive using this tutorial.
    http://ashholt.googlepages.com/ps2softmod
Now I want to know how can I play my backup of Crash Team Racing, my original is too scratched up :( and other PS2 games. I have family over all the time and it would help if I could make backups of the PS2 games that they play most and just let them use those. I have lost way to many original discs due to scratching. Is there any way such as Swap Magic but a free version of it that will let me play my backup PS1/PS2 games? The Hard Drive inside it is only for the games my dad got from India and other TV Shows, I really don't put games on it (except Guitar Hero, I want those discs to last forever :)

    Thanks.

So, let me get this straight.

You have backups of some original games and the originals are scratched. The only mod on your PS2 is the HDD. You can try the memcard exploit to load games. It will require you to swap discs though. You can also try installing the ISO of the game to the HDD from the computer over a network using a program like HD - Dump.

I did get cogswap to work but only for PS2 games and not PS1 games. I could install it to a hard drive but when my family is over the hard drive is out of the system because they move the PS2 all the time and sometimes even drop it. I might start to just leave the HD inside the system which will allow for my PS2 backups but how can I run the PS1 backups?

I have looked into playing backup ps1 games using a soft modded PS2(HD with independent exploit) and have found that it can't be done.

I know its not possible on the hard drive but I have heard of people succeeding with other tools, I think Cogswap. I couldn't get it to work with my version of Cogswap.

Wow. You guys should just go buy Swap Magic instead of all this pain in the ass.

I could but since my PS2 is already softmodded, there must be a way to do it without having to buy Swap Magic.
