Hi, i have been looking for an answer to this with no luck. I bought an american PS2 (39001) and i installed an orignial Magic 3.1. Now, i can play all region 1 (USA) movies by deactivating the Magic by holding the reset button till the screen flashes and the PS2 starts ... if i try the same with a region 4 (south america, where i live) it says that it can't play the disc cause region restrictions, so i tried running DVD Hacker 1.5, Gameshark 3, and DVD Region X, but no luck it allways says that it can't recognize the DVD or the RSD appears. Regarding DVD Region X, it said that my version of the DVD player was new and that i should take some codes from their page. But my is 2.12U, and they only had 2.10. This is killing me cause in my country, 90% of the movies are region 4, any idea? Thanks a lot. By the way, i did searched on the forum before asking, but found nothing like this.
holding reset till sony screen comes up turns OFF the magic 3.1 to play region free dvd it needs to be in ps1 mode. hold reset until blue eject led comes on then release.you will be in ps1 mode now movie will play
Put the dvd movie in ur tray Then directly switch off ur console (the switch behind) Then restart it again and press and hold the reset button untill the browser screen comes then remove ur hand from the reset button Hope this will play ur dvd movies
NO if you hold it untill browser comes on it turns off magic chip.It will play your region dvd ok BUT WILL NOT PLAY out of region dvd unless its in ps1 mode. ONLY hold RESET untill blue light comes on EJECT button
i need to use region free (or gameshark or dvd hack) to tell the PS2 to be other region ... if i do the PS1 trick, obviuslly either won't load, as DVDX/GS/DVDH are PS2 programs ... i have allready trying this trick (same used to play PS1 games) ... but i cant make it work ...
sorry i was wrong i looked around and dont see any thing about out of region movies,I was thinking of the macromedia thing so you can record dvds .
does anyody with a Magic 3.6 (clone) has the same problem? its like the Magic 3.1 prevents the DVD to be recognized ... and as i need it to use the region free cd
