i recently got a ps2 slim model and as always i decided to try and mod it, like i do with everything else. ive never used a ps2, and didnt have any previous knowledge as to how to go about this. after doing some searching ive decide to go with a ps2 flip top and swap magic. but i have a problem. my ps2's model number is schp-79001 and i cant find any info on the version number. im positive it is version 16 or higher, but i cant find anywhre that will tell me. and im curious to find out if anyone knows where to get a flip top and swap magic disks for it, as i dont know which ones i will need until i have the version number. Also, if anyone knows of a better, jsut as affordable, and a way that doesnt require a mod chip or any real extensive work then i would appreciate the info. thank you.

Check out the link in my sig for your version #.
As for modding go with Swapmagic v3.6 and use this guide for blocking the 3 sensors, that way you don't need to buy the flip-top.

You could use action replay to load backups but it is more complicated than using swapmagic.

um... thank you for the help, i do appreciate it, but my version isnt on that list. ive seen that page several times now. my model number is 79001, which i have concluded is a newer version that i cant find info on. if you know for a fact that my 79001 is one of the versions on that list, please let me know which one, because i didnt see that model number anywhere. and i actually did some research, and i think the flip top would work better, as i dont really want to mess with covering the buttons, and it isnt expensive. thank you for trying to help though.

Sorry about that man, I guess my link is kinda of outdated huh.
    I'm thinking yours is a version 16 ps2, as I have a SCPH-77001 and it registers as a v14.

thats what i was thinking too. any idea which fliptop might work. ive been looking at them and there doesnt seem to be that much of a difference in the design on the slim models. of course i could always do that little trick in your link, but i was trying to avoid messing with it like that.

I would say that any flip-top that works on a v14 would work on a v16. Maybe asking before you buy.
In fact other members here have said that some of the slimlines only require two sensors be blocked. The one where the disc brake is and the one next to the power button.

Try blocking those two sensors and leave the lid open. Turn on the system and see if the laser attepts to read a disc. If so I would recommend not going with the flip-top. Other wise the flip-top is looking good.
