I bought a PS2 of ebay about 3 months ago and I planned on putting in a mod chip. So about 2 week ago I ordered a Magic 5 50k for my PS2 V9. By the way I got my mod chip from modchipstore.com and I shipped within 4 days. Anyways I tried installing the mod and I was unsuccessful, so I decided to cut my losses with the mod and just remove the solder and wires. When my PS2 was reassembled, without the mod, it won't boot up. I know the power source is good because the red stand by mood light will come on and the tray will eject, but the disk isn't spinning. I've listened closly to where I put the disk in a for a brief sec. and it sounds like it's trying to spin but it won't. If I could get any feedback from anyone, especially fly_low i would appreciate it. Should I send it in to get it repaired?
check all the wires connecting to the dvd drive... open up the ps2, take the cover off the disk drive,, take the white disk out of the top and put it on the disk... turn it on and try to boot the disk.... tell me what happens. are you sure you removed all the solder? yeah you likly bridged 2 points and fergot to desolder it
ok i'll try what you guys said, but is there any possibility that static affected anything on the motherboard? Would replacing the motherboard with a refurbished one be smart>>?? i'll get back to you quickly
when you say "check all the wires" what exactly do you mean? Also the reason I am in such a rush is because my modchip warrenty time is running out and if I end up needing to buy a new PS2 it is unlikely I will find the same version so I will probally need to exchange my Magic 5 50k. Bye the way, my cousin has a "disk read error" PS2. Is there any way I could swap parts with him to test to see what's wrong with my PS2 or would the whole "not the right version" thing take place. I know there is either something wrong with my motherboard, the Disk reader or the connection wires between them. Also, what determines the version of something? I thought is was just the motherboaded and every thing else was pretty compatible. Thx
I had the same problem with my ps2 but mine is a v5 and the chip is a Magis v so I don't know if the mother board is the same.My problem was that i had solder the wires in the back where they wher sopposed to be and I had not notice but one of the copper squares i solder to had lifted and broke. The wirer going there was the letter (D). I fixed that copper square and its fine now. but I still have one more problem to figure out know I don't have picture or sound but you can here the ps2 load and everything.
a lot of disk doesnt also work is my ps2. games like socom 2, XIII, medal of honour rising sun. so what i did i was open the ps2, go to the place where the laser is and rotate the circle object clockwise. then i got better does any body here know how to change the voltage going to the ps2 lens?
This guide shows you how: http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm But its not advised unless you really have to as it can damage the lens.
Forget it. I'm just gonna go out and buy a new PS2 and start fresh. I never wanna take apart a PS2 again if is way to much work and I screwed it up. See ya l8er guys
