When I go to the display setting on my ps3 and check all the boxes on automatic settings it puts it at 1080p which is correct, thats what my tv supports(full 1080p) but when it does this the picture is crackling and popping. When I go to 1080i or 720p its fine. Does this mean I cant utilize the full potential of 1080p resolution or is there some way to fix this? Thanks!

I have tried 3 different cords all with the same results the one im currently using is a 1080p 1.3a. I know they were all 1080p cords.

Well if you tried 3 cords I suppose that eliminates that as a factor though what you've got is typically classic crappy hdmi cord symptoms.

Do you have access to say a friends ps3, or a standalone bluray player? Need to try to determine which end the problem is coming from.

I had a similar problem once and tried multiple cords, found out it was the TV hdmi connector that was faulty, so I used a different hdmi port on the tv and no more problems
