I am looking for some 5.1 speakers for my PS3, but it seems I'm going to have to spend around £170 - £200 for anything decent with an optical input, such as the Logitech Z-5500 or the the JVC TH-L1. If I am mistaken in thinking I have to spend that much please tell me. Otherwise, I was wondering if I could get a relatively cheap receiver that would have an optical input that I could use with some cheaper PC speakers, such as the Logitech X-540 and pay less than £100 for everything?

Either one of those should work, especially if you're just wanting to use the optical and digital coax inputs. But, if you're wanting to take advantage of the ps3's Blu ray capabilities, and hear the HD audio soundtracks of Blu ray movies, you'll need a receiver that can decode those HD audio formats. To do that, you won't get out that cheap........

Thanks alot for the reply. So, what products would you recommend if:

    a) I just wanted a cheap receiver to use with a cheap set of 5.1 PC speakers?(which I think would produce proper 5.1, just not that great quality)

    b) I wanted something that would produce the full quality sound the PS3 has to offer?

    Thanks again, Lloyd.
