I just logged on to afterdawn for the first time in awhile and can't believe that there is STILL no way to play a ps3 backup? Really? With the cost of blu-ray burners falling fast I feel that something should be on its way...Right? Come on swap magic v.ps.3!!!

I notice some of the PS3 games are already available to download and would fit onto a Dual Layer DVD. So in theory if the PS3 is cracked you wouldn't necessarily need the game to be burnt onto a Blu-Ray disc? For example Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is only 5.95GB, Call of Duty 4 5.34GB

The game images are around you just can't play them yet.
Just my two cents on the topic.

I have an idea. How about an administrator locks this thread until someone has useful real information?

Is there a way for us to know how the process is coming along?

Yes. It's a 2 step process 1) subscribe to this thread 2) wait. There is also a pre-requisite to stop posting useless shit. If there's nothing with a bit of substance, eg "dev team cracked x", NOT "you can burn blu ray now does that mean they play der?", then don't post.

Ps3hax.net is doing some work right now and is close to installing debug firmware on a retail ps3. They have not got it to fully install since the debug options still will not work, but this is a step in the right direction. If they manage to get this running then there is our ticket to unsigned code.

Cool, I was reading about this yesterday and how there running debug and playing around with FirmWare and etc. Although I don't know anything about hacking... to me this always sounds like a step ahead and maybe the PS3 can be hacked more into. Some ppl say this is not even a big deal since there has been hackers who have done something like this already...

After reading this i went over to PS3hax to have a read. Is the debug firmware they can "partially" install written by sony, or have someone written the program?
If someone has written the program, then does that mean that they can install firmware not written by sony? If so does that mean that if a CFW had been written they would be able to install that?
I know very little about hacking, so i apologise if this is a stupid question.
Personally i am not interested in the ability to play "backups", as there are only a 1 or 2 games a month i actually want to play, and i'd choose playing online over playing backups any day of the week.
The homebrew scene is much more appealing to me.

I thought the PS3 was similar to the PSP, but apparently not, cuz the PSP was hacked pretty quickly. I guess Sony boosted the security and learned from their mistakes. But one thing I know is that its not impossible, and it will get hacked eventually. We just have to wait.

Now that Bluray is officially the winner. It wont be long until Bluray Burners become reasonable. Then I would think someone could figure out how to play copies. Really surprised somebody hasnt figured something out yet. Gotta hand it to Sony.

I am easily surprised as well, but if I knew someone that could do it and would work on trying to figure it out, and I mean put 16 hours a day into it, i'd buy all the freaking equipment. The total run of 1200-1400 to do a backup is not really that expensive. I work as a retail manager, make mid 50's, and run a network/computer repair biz where I pull in another good 30 a year, plus im single with no kids so the purchase of the equipment is easy ... if anyone knows someone that is LEGIT and would like to try to figure it out but only needs the equipment, i would be willing to fork over the funds/equipment for them to test the theories of trying to get bkups to run.

Once it's figured out, then that one time investment will be WELL worth it.

Sorry for the double post, but I know this guy in my school who claims he is beta testing for Ferrox and that you can currently play games off of the HDD.

He tells me that he just rents games and puts them on, but that Ferrox Iso Loader this hasn't been released to the public yet.

What are the chances that he is bullshitting?
