Will be at least 3-4 years before PS3 backups are as easy to obtain as they are on the PS2.

Thanks.. My advise to those wanting to play backups.... Especially PS2/PS1, do what I and others are doing, break out the ole PS2 and Backups and use that.... Honestly is it really worth cracking open your PS3 and doing any of the current Mods in order to play back ups.. I have had a PS3 since last november 06' and have only played a ps2 game twice and that was to test the backup I had made and once to play some SNES Roms.... I think as much as the PS3 is great as is. I love Sonys products and have Sony items throughout my house. Im sick of the whole comparing other consoles to the PS3.. THey all have their upside and down. There are things about the xbox and Wii that I wish I had on my PS3 and I am sure their are things on the PS3 that Xbox and WII owners would want. BUT and I mean A BIG BUTT(lol).. to ME, PS3 has a very well rounded package.. Another thing I am sick of hearing of the questions about PS3 backups and Loader and etc......I understand that there are newbies when it comes to backup but comeone if you where smart enough to sign up on this site and find this forum, than you are smart enough to search in google...If not than I have placed a link to a google search string for PS3 ISO LOADER ......Google Search String for ISO LOADER
I am not trying to be a smart ass or azz hole, I am just trying to advise those newbs... Dont sign up here just to ask one question..."When is an ISO LOADER going to be released?".. or Im going to start starting threads asking "How retards does it take to do a google search?"

    Later peps

Over at ps3hax(f*ck them btw) they may have found a way to crack the hypervisor. Just in case you don't know what that is, it is the chip that limits 3d graphics acceleration and ram in the other os. So in other words if it can be done hello homebrew and iso loader.

    Hello iso loader...
I wouldn't count on it if I were you.

One day, when Sony will see that with only 10 million PS3s sold they will lose, they will just release a firmware that supports all the back ups. Like they did with PSP.
So IMHO Sony will release the firmaware that would allow the isos and homebrew to be played.
They did it before, they'll do it again.

Right, before u flame, i am fully aware there is currently no working mod out there for the PS3.

Has anybody succesfully copied a blu-ray disk? if so, how can i get my hands on one. I just happen to have access to a PS3 test unit, and rumour has it that the copy disks will play on these. Mega keen to try this out and will report bac with results...

    Cheers

i have a backup of virtua fighter 5 on blu-ray but i'm not keen on giving it up so you can play it on the test unit. because we already know they work on test units. that's common knowledge. now if you were to tell me you know what you're doing and it could possibly open a door, i'd send it with a bow.

You can only play PS3 games with original disk in the drive. Thats the only available option, mate.

Since i don't own a Blu-ray disc or HD, mind if I ask how the discs stand up to scratches? The first batch of DVD movies were in some cases so poorly made, a few scratches made them impossible to use. It took about 2-3 years for the major studios to start offering quality DVDs at reasonable prices & mass produce them to offset costs.

btw, anyone care to speculate if the HDD will be the exploit that gets used first (PS3 HDD Loader) or will the disc encyption be cracked (Swap Magic PS3 & modchips)? I would prefer a HDD exploit over making backup discs.

Really? I guess we all would:D

There are several "big" problems with that:
-the disk is only 60 gb or 80... whatever. Thats for 3 games max
-the disk is FAT32 formatted so no single files bigger than 4 GB can exist on such file system (and a PS3 ISO is way bigger)
-a big external NTFS drive could resolve some of this issues, but it is unknown if it could realy work this way
-and the bigger problem: each bluray disk game will have a unique encription. So the ISO loader of today would probably not load games of the future (with different encryption). It could mean that we would have a separate loader for each game (less probable) or the devs would update the loader each time a new game comes out.
-and the biggest problem: nobody knows the encryption key.

Anybody that knows whats encryption knows that todays stuff is realy hard to break without keys.
I heard an estimate that it would take a current high end computer at least 20 years of trying to decrypt the encryption on a single bluray disk game. And that would only be good for playing that one game and not all the PS3 games.

hello. does anybody have an estimate of how long it might take to create some kind of ISO loader for the PS3?

    seriously.
