I am more concerned on playing my OLD PS2 and PSX games, the valuable ones... PS3 as said it will be too expensive, I will rather play PS2 good games still that I havent completed... :p

A little off thread but you know what I think would be a winner... What I am about to say some may laugh at the idea where others will appreciate it...

A remake of the PS2 with HDMI output. I read that they were making a version 3 anyway. I don't think it would cost much more to make with HDMI. Maybe could be sold around $200 Australian or about $160 US. That way you would have a machine with full PS and PS2 compatibility that would look great on a Plasma or LCD. I mean, the 40gb PS3 has removed PS2 BWC completely.

I also have component cables for my PS2 and they look much better then the composite connection, but let's face it nothing is better than HDMI or DVI. I personally feel that a digital connection makes a big difference in picture quality when connecting to a digital panel.

Anyway, if Sony made it... I would buy one!

for all of those that are complaining about how much it would cost to make backups.

its simple, when the modchips come out.
buy 200 gb hard drive for your ps3 and copy each game to the hard drive as you rent them from blockbusters from around £4 per game.

even if you dont want to splash out on the rental fee you can always download the games.

that way you dont have to buy a blue ray burner nor the blank disks.
100 or so dollars for a hard drive, and bang! your playing ps3 games ;)

You guys in England pay a lot for things...

I just used XE.com to work out that £4 = $9 Australian or $8 US...

I can hire PS3 games for $5 here. I also saw someone say something about £1000 for a stand alone blu-ray player. That isn't right, is it? That's $2300 Australian or $2000 US. They are $600 - $1000 here (The high end ones are around $1500).

Anyway, I saw an external 500gb hard drive for around $150 so that would fit at least 20 single layer blu-ray PS3 games... That's if they all used the full disc. Which from comparing to PS2 DVD's, they often don't. Much cheaper then burning blu-ray discs at this point in time.

ye ill be very surprised if they use more than 25gb.
i think all this blue ray nonsence is all a gimick.
just to make the consumer buy and make them give preference over the 360.
i mean in the ps2 they could go upto 9 gb, but we all know that when you rebuild the iso, the core game was never ever even 4 gb.

so it just goes to show.
they dont need all of that data space.

i guess ill be everyone to the posty on this one in terms of the 4.7 yes they make single layer=4.9 and dual layer witch has double the room on the disc and this stuff about putting games on hdd its good for now but but 09' ps3 games are going to be 100gb bluray disc so that means your convential hdd even 1 tb hdd isnt going to hold that many new games after 09' im thinkin we need a haxor on our team to modify those bootable elf files or we can just wait to have codebreaker pussx out their new codebreaker for ps3 and make an edited elf but that took awhile on ps2 but thats what i use on my ps2 it could be awhile for that though they just started work on the ps3 edition either way we need a blu ray start up sequencer just to learn the differene in booting a br

Just for your curiosity I sold my OLD PS2 so I could buy a PS3, pretty much, I am not planning on buying another one, if I sold it, it was so thbat I didnt buy another one, so you have my answer.

I dont expect them to create a MOD Chip, but a way to work around just like the PSP, use the DEMO version downloader to play PS2 game ISOs, you just take out the ISO with Alcohol and play it on the PS3... that doesnt sound difficult for someone that can decrypt files.

Now regarding sizes, the first PS2 games were CDs of 700MB blue ones, then the silver ones were either 4.7GB or 9 GB which is duallayered or DVD9 games... for PS3, yeah you are NOT using the 25GB, at least NOT right now, but imagine at Duallayer 50GB its a HUGe space for a good upcomming game.

A 100gb blu-ray disk is four layers. Blank dual layer blu-ray disks (50gb) cost around 35 bucks now for each disk and 15 bucks for a single layer (25gb). How much do you think a quadruple layer blu-ray disk would cost if they become available in 2009??? 1 TB drives are starting at 250 bucks now, 2 TB drives are around 500 bucks now....how much do u think these drives will cost in 2009...it looks like HDD's will always be the way to go.

i just checked back on the site it says about the nand flasher its a feature that will allow you to downgrade the ps3 os patches and firmwares ""PS3 NAND FLASHER work exactly like a NAND PROGRAMMER, you can read, write and compare the BIOS of PS3. For the final users the good thing is that is possible to backup an old firmware, update to a new one and then with backup return back to the old firmware again"" heres the site but they dont talk about when the offical mod chip is to be released or even if they are working on it right now just says coming soon but heres the link
http://www.infectus.biz/features.php#PS3DOWNGRADE when they do start selling im going to pre order if i have to

ps2 iso times were running on hdd's no bigger than 120gb so could store 30 games wich is probably less ,anyway in a year we could have in our hands 2tb or 3tb hdd at affordable prices. wich means storing up to 40 games per tb wich is a lot,

the chip is useless since the same happened with the psp, they made the chip for nothing it was a total waste i feel sorry for the guys who made it i don't think they made a lot of oney with it.

ps3 has the same destiny as the psp some day it's fw will be cracked and we will enjoy not having to rent the same game twice.

cuz with rental u at least 1 cent goes to the game studio

but when downloading nothing goes to them instead a couple of cents go to that forum owner from advertising so a guy with no moral gets what he doesn't deserve

Your slightly misinformed about the PS2,the games are only put on single layer DVDs(4.7gb).
Xbox 1 games use dual layer DVDs(8.5gb)

But it is true that the games rarely take the full capacity of the disc.

Hold up... I can think of a few titles that use dual layer discs on the PS2. I am referring to PAL versions of...

    - God of War
    - God of War II
    - Gran Turismo 4
    - 50 cent bulletproof
    - Forbidden Siren 2

I am sure there are more but they are just some I can think of right now.

With that being said, they usually sit at around the 6gb mark so not too much over a DVD5... Still leaving plenty of room on a DVD9.

As far as using blu-ray discs for the PS3, I feel that makes way for huge potential. Media rich games with huge plots being visually stunning... And the sound! I'm so impressed just by the fact that they use DTS 5.1 or Dolby 5.1 throughout the entire game (unlike the PS2 using Dolby Pro-Logic). This makes a HUGE difference when connecting to AV equipment digitally. I am not too sure about the need for quad layer blu-ray discs for games though. I am sure we will get there eventually but I think it's a long way off yet. Let's just be happy about what we have now which is already a huge advancement over DVD optical media.

Yesit seems that I was misinformed slightly, after doing some searching on Google i found that a few games are on DVD9,i was basing what i thought i knew on early PS2 specifications where it said the discs were 4.5gb and on the fact that all the games ive ever backed up were 4.5 or smaller,my apologies mub6.

    not to worry,
but to all of those who are worried about quadruple layer disks,
    like i said,
    its not gonna happen.
they had the capacity to build games upto 9gb on the ps2 and they didnt even relaes ONE game that took up the space of the full 9 gigs.

i doubt it very much if there are going to be any 100gb games.
i think they will be more than content with 25. and possibly even less.
like i said its all just a front, the blue ray is just supposed to give the ps3 the extra sparkle in comparison to the 360. but having played both.
i must say there is little difference in graphics.

and to be honest, i doubt it very much the ps3 is going to be moddable. im tired of waiting
so i think im gonna go with the 360!
im gonna buy it, mod it, and then start playing my downloaded games :)
i would urge others with my dilemma to do the same :S
