    Hi.

I own a 40g PS3 (the one with the spiderman 3 movie) with the KEM 400aaa/KES 400a Laser. Few months ago, the same day that MGS4 was released, I played it for the fisrt 2 hours of the game and next day morning I put the game in and nothing happened. It was the first time that my PS3 had an issue. After that I couldt play any BD disk again, but I could play PSone games
Recently, I bought a new KES 400a laser in order to fix it, but after replace it nothing happened, so I went to the store to get a new one, but nothing happened, again. After that, I placed the original laser in the BD drive and I noticed that when I turn on the PS3 that laser hops and emits the blue ray, something that the 2 lasers I get didnt do before.

So, my question is... what could be happening? I read that somethimes the BD motherboard crashes, or the firmware gives problemes... I dont know...

Almost forgot... I cant send it to SONY because I´m from Chile and SONY doesnt give costumer or technical support for PS3 issues, if someone tells me to do that xD

    PD: Excuse my english!

Is the disk spinning? If not then it could be your motor that is fried, but since you said it plays PS1 games I don't think that would be the issue. When you replaced the laser, was it the same exact model number? You said that you had the KEM 400aaa. Try to replace it with that. Did you make sure the ribbon cables were in right enough when you replaced the laser?

I make sure that it was the same model number, both KES 400 and so with the cables.
Now that you say, the motor doesnt spin at all, any disk.
there is some way to test the motor?

Put back in the old laser and try it out. That's the only way I know of.

When I put the new laser nothing happens, nothing. Disk doenst spin
When I put the original laser, it hops and emits the blue light. Disk doesnt spin.

Your Motor could be fried. Either that or the entire BluRay drive needs to be replaced. If I were you I would sell it as broken on Ebay and buy a new one.

    ur motor gone guy.
there's a website i believe psxboy.com there are 3 pin diode and 4 pin diode and theres mechanism w/diode
if i was u i would go for go for mechanism if it is right motor drive
so that way u don't have to mess with laser settings
and another thing these diodes are very delicate and can go blunt with no reason they are rebuildable but not for us yet usually they accept the returns
