yes thats what you need. it really easy to change actually, but the problems is finding a good working lasers that will last longer than 24-78 hours. thats the major problems with this type of lasers. i think people in the last pages stated some trustworthy ebay seller. but dont know which.
looks like a new laser to me aswell but i dont know how to change it , is it worth the risk ? i have opened my blue ray drive to clean it but got no idea how to change it, im sure there are articles out there but dont wanna take the risk
if you cleaned the drive, you're good enough to change it. there are several articles on how to change it, just google it and you should be able to do it easily.
I'm also going through a faulty laser and need replacement. Where is the best place to buy the laser? please let me know, thanks in advance
Hey man, I bought my laser lens deck from ebay. I know some don't or say don't buy from ebay. But the seller I bought mine from is pretty good, I bought the lens deck and a lens for two ps3's I own and now work great after the motor died on them. The lens is dead if you push it back when opened then turn it on and the lens doesn't go back to its original position. It is better to get the lens deck as the motor and the lens are new. Just have to look around alot for a seller that has a high positive feedback.
I bought my lens deck from psxboy.com. It costed 100 out the door with shipping. I've been playing my ps3 constantly since then and havent had any problems. well over 75 hours if i may mention.
i received my laser within 3 business days. Easy swap. just pay attention to what you're doing. Nothing snaps out of place when replacing the deck. Meaning if you are trying to remove something and it isn't coming apart easily, you haven't removed all of the screws holding it
i kinda have the same problem, but my ps3 sometimes works. after a few restarts. awaiting solutions. thanks
Im having kinda the same problem with my 40gb ps3 system, it wont read blu ray at all, dvd and cds fine, but blu ray.. no. Weird thing is that if i reformat the system it reads blu ray but will freeze shortly after and not read blu ray again, I do not want to send my ps3 to sony being its out of warranty already, i would like to diy, but im not sure if it would be the laser eye, the drive itself, or possibly the controller ic( which i hope not) any suggestions?
i can not seem to find a direct answer or resolution to why the disk does not spin? i have opened it, it accepts the disk like normal but it doesnt spin afterwards? can someone please clarify? thanks in advance
mine did this too. i think its the laser, if the laser does not light up, then it sees no disk, then no disk = no spin.
one thing i noticed which seemed weird is the laser didnt reset when i would connect the ribbon but when i would remove the ribbon the laser light would come on and it would move into position.. still no spin but is this a sign of something?
OMG exactly my sentiments. My blu-ray drive just died as well and this is the second time it's happened. The first was under warranty but this time it isn't. I wrote Sony a nasty e-mail how it's ridiculous that we pay out the nose for a sub-standard product that they don't even back up. I hate being ripped off and totally feel like you said they are just telling us to "bend over." In fact, the response to my e-mail was simply "we have checked into your issue and it is out of warranty it will be $149 for repair." ...grrr f-ing a-holes
Okay, so I had a problem just like most of ya'll on here and fixed it by ordering a complete laser platform thing. But after two days of playing games, I went to load my cod4 game and once the screen came up to choose single player and such, it just locked up, so I turned off system and restarted it. Now the discs don't spin. I would appreciate any advice?
Ok. This is my first time here and I have read a considerable amount of the posts in this thread and can't seem to find one describing the exact problem I am having. About 3 months ago I was doing a routine cleaning of my blu-ray drive and while reassembling the drive my overly long thumbnail cut the optical sensor wire. Before this everything was working perfectly. while attempting to repair the wire I also broke the place on the control board where the wire connects to. I know... stupid. Not having money for repairs at the time. My PS3 went untouched sitting in the closet until 2 days ago when I ordered a replacement control board and optical sensor wire. I made the repairs and fired it up. Everything seemed to work until I put in a disc. It took approximately 45 seconds for the loading icon to appear in the corner. An additional minute or so goes by and it disappeared... nothing. I tried all disc formats (CD, DVD, and Blu-ray) and all ended with the same results. The PS3 also will not play any downloaded content with the new board on the drive, it just freezes on a black screen and I have to restart. I have taken the drive apart and put it back together several times to reassure myself I did everything right and the results were the same. Until today, about 20 minutes ago, I popped in an audio CD and waited... and waited... and the icon for the disc appeared. It obtained the information for the CD via internet but it will not play the songs. This makes me believe there is a problem with the laser, but not playing downloaded games/demos would be a problem with the control board since that is all the PS3 needs to run those, right? No other discs read at all other than audio and the results are the same for every one I own. The PS3 is a 60gb purchased approx. 6 months after launch. Both the current (broken) and replacement control board are BMD-001. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I can't help you with fixing your problem but I did just want to confirm that you are correct: the control board is all you need to access the stuff on the crossbar menu. My blu-ray drive is currently broken (awaiting a replacement as we speak) but once I plugged everything together (even with the broken drive)I could access everything (but discs of course).
