does anyone know about how to possibly flash the blu ray control board? im not sure if mine is bad until my new laser with deck comes in the mail! but if it is bad how would i use a new one off like ebay? please someone help!!!!!!
alright regarding most of you who replaced your blueray lens(kes-400a) and had it stop working after a hour i have a solution for you i replaced mine to be super stoaked it worked again thinking i beat sony then to have sony kick me in nuts a hour later when it didnt work. after restoring and trying everything i came across this aricle. http://www.wikihow.com/Realign-Your-Ps3's-Blu-Ray-So-That-a-Disc-Can-Load-and-Eject after doing it, it worked but did not eject cds. SO trying forever to try and align everything perfectly still no go. i spent 4 hours just trying to align the peices perfect and still didnt work. The most important thing of that artile is to make the black platform on the left come off the gear and put it back on. Now if you are ok with it, my answer if you cant get it right with the steps have your ps3 blueray drive open when you turn it on so you can see the inside of it like it was when you replaced the kes-400a. Have your drive in the mode of haivng a cd in there so the gaurds are up. have the rubber things that attach to yoru ps3 disc fully out so there not touching it. SO the disc is just sitting on the nub thing. then as it starts spinning it will be very unstable so press eject right away and the rubber wheels should grab it and eject it. If it does this that means it will accept the cd when you put it all together. You can try and eject and isert the cd a few times if y ou wnat to see if it works for sure before you put everything back together. This is my soution and not recomeneded if you have any other way. Cuz my ps3 makes a wierd sound when its sitting down when its reading a cd but not when its on its side so. i just leave it on its side. i thing something is just rubbing on the cd or something even thou i cant find any scratches
Hey recently my ps3 40gb CECHG04 bluray broke. The strange thing is when the ps3 have been shutdown for over a day it can read bluray media fine for about 2-3 minutes then it frezzes and makes strange sound like its trying to read same sound comes from the bluray. I dont know if the bluray is dead or not, If its dead why is it reading for about 2-3 min when cold its like it overheating the chips of the bluray or like it healing when cold i dont know. Ive tried reformating hdd in ps3, changed harddrives ,install new firmware, and rebuild database. Any suggestions on what could be the problem, Iam out of ideas.
Hi, can anyone figure out what's happening with my blu-ray drive? I bought a 40GB CECHK06 with 2 known issues. 1. It was stuck in error 8002f14E loop (unable to update firmware) 2. It doesn't accept any disc and the blue led light is not lighting up. After hours of pulling out and re-inserting the drive while loading, I managed to update and boot the ps3 to XMB. I downloaded a demo to see if it can play games in hdd, but whenever I tried to start a game, the screen blacks out. So I took the ps3 apart and found out the bluray drive wasn't connected to the motherboard at all (this might be the reason it was stuck in error 8002f14E while updating and blue led not lighting up). After connecting the blu-ray drive to the motherboard, no more insert and eject disc problem, demo games can load normally. I'm almost done restoring this ps3, the problem now is it doesn't spin the disc. I've tried to manually move the lens and it moves back to its original position on reboot. I can also see the a purple laser light up for about a second when a disc is inserted. What could be the problem? Since the drive controller is keyed to the motherboard, could the problem be due to the system being updated without a blu-ray drive connected? Should I wait for a new firmware update or buy a new deck?
either he blueray lens is dead or the drink drive is out of line. Solution here http://www.wikihow.com/Realign-Your-Ps3'...-Load-and-Eject Im not to sure that the drive would be effected by the drive cuz when you buy a new one it ahs not been used when installing a new firmware. But yet everything works so. you can either try to realign the blueray drive buy a new one or if you think its cuz of the firmware wait for the new one cuz i think 3.1 is going to come out in november. IT better, and it better come with cross media chat.
Thanks dude. Update on my ps3. The firmware issue is now ruled out, I updated my firmware via recovery menu and everything went well except for the blu-ray drive. That leaves me with either the laser needing to be replaced or my controller board IC not telling the motor to spin the disc. idk. I'm leaning towards replacing the laser although I'm a bit hesitant 'cos the ones with "no spin" problem who replaced their laser didn't see their purple laser light up, mine does for about a second. Any input will be appreciated, thanks.
Hey man, I ended up just buying the whole lens deck for my model. It was the KES-400a model and after I installed it my PS3 was alive again. If you think your lens is dead or rule it out, when you have it open. Push the lens to the back out of its original location and then turn on the ps3.(do this when the power is unplugged) If the lens moves back to its original position then it is alright and more than likely the motor is dead. It could be the board but if you buy the laser lens deck and it works like how mine worked then that is awesome. But if it doesn't then it is the board underneath the drive. I use mine PS3 alot now since then and I have had no problems. Hope this helps buddy.
I have a 40gig ps3 that has stopped reading all disks. I have been reading through this forum and have not found a solution to my problem. When i insert a disk the laser flashes and the disk spins, and the bubble in the top right of the screen keeps spinning without the game loading up. The disk will spin for a second then stop then will spin again to try and read the disk. I have opened it up and cleaned the lens which did not work. I am able to play demos off of the hard drive. Should i just try and replace the laser or is something else wrong?
well, didnt understand what actually hapnd..... it could b anything from a laser problem to burnt out controller board. could u give more details how it all hapnd?
It just stopped reading disks. When i put a game in the laser will flash on and the disk will spin for a second or two then stop. It will keep doing this until i eject or turn the ps3 off. The loading symbol will spin in the corner of the screen while this is happening so I know it is trying to load the game.
Thanks for the info. I already tried pushing the lens and it moved back to its original position. So I think the motor is dead. Anyway, what are the signs of defective controller board? 'Cos I can still play demo games, and watch movies from USB. Lastly, can you PM me the seller where you got your replacement laser, I think mine should be KEM-410ACA.
im pretty sure its your lens cuz it wouldnt go back to the orignal spot if the controller board was dead. You can buy one off a few websites cant think of any off by hand just google kes-400aca. I bought mine off ebay and it worked fine. But if you buy it off ebay make sure its an american seller because china has been sending out dead ones latly. tookk about 4 weeks to get it in the mail which kind of sucked. but it cost 70 canadian which was ok. i spent 30$ on s$h cuz it was out of the states.
@gulaman Yeah buddy, I just searched for a long time on ebay and the seller I bought from was sjsharks or something of the sort. I made sure they had a lot of good replies on the laser lens deck before I bought it. You will have to search for your particular model. KES-400a is common for 2007 models and that is when I bought my PS3. But just do a lot of research on sellers and your model number of your laser. You should be fine once you feel that the seller is not selling dead lens decks. Just replace the whole deck not just the lens, you will have a new motor and a new lens when you do it that way.
@Gryphon77 @acdcman7 Thanks for the helpful info. I'll look for a laser w/ deck on ebay, although I'm not too sure if I should get it from the states since I'm currently based in Singapore and the farther the package travels, the more chances of it being DOA. If anyone know an asian seller that can be trusted, pls let me know.
there are 2 differen't boards. one with a samsung chip and one with a differen't chip (can't remember the name starts with an E though). i had my ps3 and 2 other drives. mine and one of the spare drives had the samsung chip and the 3rd had the other chip. put the board with the other chip into my drive and tested it. booted up and that was about a week ago, been playing everything from ps2 games to blue ray movies without so much as a hiccup.
ok i hope i can get some help here, i have 3 drives one is out of my personal 60 gig and works fine i have a 40 gig one which the mechanisc of the drive is done and dusted so i put the board of the broken one on my good drive put it in works like a dream, so i buy a so called working tested drive off ebay i get it put it in and hey disk goes in out but the disk dont spin, i have used the laser dock from the old broken drive and same problem the laser moves up and down but the black disk dont spin on both also the laser has no light on either when started? do i just need a new laser or to buy the whole dock is my question? regards .
that was my problems also. i didnt figured it out so i shipped to sony. cost 150$, the same as you alreadu spent trying to figure it out by yourself. my advie is dont mess with the older lens, just have them repair by sony's tech. plus you get a 90 days warranty. mine is still kicking butt after 6 months.
I'm not trying to bash anyone's balls but I think people come here to find solutions so they can fix their PS3s themselves. So yeah, the send to Sony suggestions are not helping, at least for me, it didn't. @PvtHeath From what I've read so far, buying the whole deck will help you eliminate a lot of problems. That leaves you with the controller board if it still doesn't work after lens with deck swap.
yes you are indeed right. but people repair their stuff themsleve mainly because of the cost of the rapair. nowaday, its hard to find unit under 100$. you're lucky if it works the first time and last more than a week or even a day. so you'll shell another 100$ for a deck+lens. you're up to 200$ on something it could have cost you 150$. but all in all its your decision, im just suggesting. the earlier deck are way overpriced and often in bad shape, thats why those with the launch model i suggest them to go straight to sony, those with the latest model dont come here that often. thats why you see me refering to sony here and there. but you are (anyone) in no way obligated to follow what i say. its just a sugestion. cheers, Louis
Okay, I agree with you about people having to spend more than $200 to repair their system, but that's because they didn't do enough research before actually fixing their PS3s. Anyway, we've got to have a list of stores on ebay or elsewhere that can sell us good quality lens and deck with warranty. To those who have done a lens swap, please share info where you got your replacements. Thanks.
