I recently bought a PS3 slim with this error on ebay thinking it was an easy fix. Apparently it's not. I tried replacing the hard drive without success. I tried to format it to FAT32 and just delete all partitions on the PC without success. Finally I came to the conclusion that the PS3 isn't even spinning the hard drive. Is there any way to fix this? Is there a fuse that controls the spinning of the hard drive?
ive heard of this error before BUT not on the Slim only on the older Fat PS3, i think some people have fixed this by reformating the drive since it has been corrupted probably while the PS3 was updating system firmware the console was accidentally turned off in the main or there was a power outage so the system didnt fully update corrupting the HD (and possibly the system). ALso if the PS3 is on and gets dropped while its accessing the HD ( saving data) then it could also be that the HD is damaged/broken. If you could use a friends PS3 system to try and reformat the corrupted drive? Then use the PS3 system recovery menu ( restart hold finger on the restart/power button till you get 3 beeps) to rebuild file system, rebuild database, restore PS3 System, i don't know if this works for the slim, you can also try another Hard drive then restore it in another PS3 like i said before, maybe that will work. Ive seen some "cant access HD" PS3's on ebay but i thought if it where an easy fix like buying a $30-40 replacement HD why would the person be selling it if for 30 bucks it could be fixed?
Well the thing with mine is that it doesn't even spin the hard drive. Yea, I bought it thinking it was an easy fix. New HDD and its ready to go but it didn't work. I have another PS3 and I tried to access the recovery menu on that and it worked but on the slim it didn't (according to Sony, it should). I know the HDD isn't bad because it works fine on the PC if I format it to NTFS. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the power supply or a fuse that is powering the hard drive. I'm gonna try to order a male to female SATA cable and use a 3rd party power source and see if I can get it to boot. If not, I'm basically screwed.
what HD replacement did you buy? Ive heard this error can also be due to the HD set to SATA II (3.5gb) Instead of SATA ! (1.5gb) so setting the jumper on the back of drive has fixed the error on older fat models for some people, i think it has something to do with how fast the PS3 accesses the data on the replacement HD, others tried reseating the HD it could be as simple as it not making a connection in all the way but i doubt it in your case. You have no way of checking if the Blu-ray drive works either so the system can have other problems even if you get it to boot.I guess you could always resell it on Ebay if you can't get it to boot. How much did you pay for it broken?
It's a 40GB SATA 5400RPM Drive and I also tried the drive from my old 80GB PS3. Still does the same. I know the bluray drive isn't broken because I put in a game and it spun the disk and I could hear the drive going. On PS3s, if the laser doesn't recognize the disk, it won't spin it. I spend $125 shipped on the system so not a bad deal. It also has the warranty seal intact so I'm gonna try to send it to Sony. They are already sending me a box, all they did was ask if I have a receipt and not ask for it so I might be in luck.
Fixed! It's not a permanent solution but it works. Basically another reason this error occurs is when the PS3 cannot power the hard drive. Another way to fix it is using another power source for the hard disk. 1. Find another power source for the hard disk. I used a computer power supply but you can use something else. 2. Buy a Male to Female SATA Cable. I bought this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...928940&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2377wt_972 You will need to cut the 2 tabs on the cable off to make it fit in the PS3. Do not break them off or you will break the cable, use a saw or something and cut them off. 3. Use the cable and plug in the data side of the hard drive into the PS3. Use the other power source and power the hard drive with that. Turn it on and it'll work fine!
i had the same problem in the end i took it apart and cleand the mother bard with Isopropyl Alcohol and then it read the hdd and reformated
an eSata adapter still needs power. I didn't get a chance to take it apart, I just sent it to Sony but I think the problem could be a loose solder joint between the HDD and power connector, dirt blocking a fuse or something or a bad fuse/power supply. I know somebody on eBay that fixes these problems all the time but he refused to tell me what he does. Selfish idiot.
So it was the system not being able to power the HD? That caused the problem? How did Sony take it without a receipt it being from ebay? And walsh where did you clean on the motherboard with iso alcohol to get it to access the HD?
I was in contact with the guy from Ebay and he managed to find his receipt and send me a copy so I was in luck there.
i took it a part because i thought it just had it and then i noticed water marks or condenstion build up and dryed well thats what i thought so i cleand it and let it dry till morning you useally see it all over xbox 360 motherbards that has 3 redlights of doom
