So there's no way to have it use ac3filter? Why would it not be able to do this?

In the ffdshow audio decoder configuration, the only option for ac3 is liba52, no libavcodec. Changing to this didn't seem to solve the problem...

Also, when I disable ac3 in external filters in mpc, should I also disable it in the internal filters section under source and transform filters? Is there anywhere else I need to disable it? (I'd like to keep it installed)

SupRip can not handle BD format subtitles. Besides qVAMPIREp asked for help to hardcode them not convert them. However, a conversion will need to be done in order to use AVIsynth to frameserve the subtitles.

    1) Convert .sup to .srt with SUPread.

    2) Use VSFilter via AVIsynth to call on your subtitle to be frameserved into your encoding application.

    3) Encode as normal.

    Ryu...

SubRip cannot handle BD format subtitles...but lamenting said SupRip, which can handle BD format .sup subtitles. In my experience, SupRip works better than SupRead.

As to the original question, Follow Ryu's advice (excepting that you can use SupRip if you like to convert to .srt...like I said its better from my experience and the author of SupRead (Pelican9) seems to not be currently updating SupRead or replying to any posts in the SupRead forum.)

Side Note : All you need is vsfilter avisynth plugin but if you want any type of control over the look/position/style of the subs, download VobSub. You only need to install the SubReSync tool from that package. Fire up SubReSync and open up your .srt file. You can then change the font/size/style/position. When you're done a .style file will be created with the same file name as the .srt subtitle file. VSFilter will see the .style file (I think that's the extension) and apply the settings you made.

My bad, I didn't look close enough. You are right SupRip is the better program. I completely forgot about that nice little application. Thank you. :)

    I'm not going to complicate things anymore for you. Honestly I do not view my movies on my PC, however I do decode/encode AC3. My configuration is as follow;

    Haali Media Splitter
    FFDshow
    CCCP (not K-lite)
    MPC home Cinema (testing video/audio)

AC3 2.0 all the way up to TrueHD plays fine on my MPC Home Cinema. BTW, do you have a codec pack installed? CCCP or K-Lite?

No I don't have either of these packs...I thought ffdshow was sufficient by itself. I'll try out cccp.

Using mpc home cinema seemed to fix the problem.

    Thanks.

Great, I think MPC-HC might have K-Lite incorporated... not sure though.

Glad to see your good now.

For some reason, after I convert the video, the audio cuts out a lot. Any idea what the deal is?

    Hey Alcore,

thanks for your help recently. i finally converted the movie into mp4 with the correct resolution and 6 channel (5.1) sound. took me a while, but eventually i managed to use a combination of MKVextractGUI, h264info and yamb to manouvere the streams into the right formats and made the mp4. im sure ripbot would be fine, however my PC isnt the fastest one around.

    cheers mate!

    Hi all
I have a 1080p .wmv HD file, containing VC-1 video and WMA10 5.1 channel audio.

The file as is plays on my PS3, but with no sound.

After hours spent googling , I learnt that the PS3 will only play audio out of a .wmv file if the audio stream is WMA stereo, not 5.1.

What's the best way to get it playing on my PS3?

hey all, how goes it? im back with my problem again, but this time the audio is the issue.

i downloaded a movie around 2.5gig in a MKV. i wanted to convert it to MP4 or likewise in order to play it directly from the PS3 hard drive. i dont want to stream. original conversions didnt work out as the video resolution changed - whereby it was more squashed up (more narrow horizontally) than the original resolution. i managed to sort that out ok. however now i have an issue with the audio, whereby all my attempts to extract the audo part (48.0KHz, 6 channels, AAC (version 4) (LC) (SBR)) result in either getting only a 2 channel version, or a same 6 channel version at only 24.0KHz.

I felt a sense of relief today when i compiled the files back into the MP4 and the video resolution was fixed, only to find that the audio AAC file had only the 24.0KHz and played back only the background noise (music, sounds effects, etc) and not the actors voices.

any ideas? i presume its a setting in a decoder/codec somewhere that all the programs like gotsent, tsmuxer, yamb, etc all use - ive tried them all without success.

any help would be awesome! cheers!

You need to either convert the 6 channel AAC to 2 channel AAC (48kHz) for MP4 because that is what is compatible with the PS3, or convert the 6 channel AAC to 6 channel AC3 (48kHz) for m2ts muxing. The reason you were gerring noise is 24kHz is not supported by the PS3 in those audio formats.

Demux the AAC track from your mkv using mkvextract and convert using eac3to.

    hey odin,

ived demuxed the track from the mkv using mkvextractGUI no worries, but thats where it comes out as 24khz. do i just continue on and goto eac3to and that will fix the issue when it becomes an AC3?

incidentally i made another MP4 of the same movie/file which has the AC3 6 channel track in it, but unfortunately i used the wrong h264 stream (the one with 5.1 AVC profile - squashed up/narrow resolution instead of the 4.1 stream). problem is i can seem to get that AC3 stream out of that MP4, any program for that?

Use eac3to and the following command (with your directories obviously)

    Code:
    c:\eac3to c:\videos\audio.aac c:\videos\audio.ac3 -resampleTo48000
This will take your 24kHz AAC track, convert it to AC3 and resample it to 48kHz. That above is a general command line, you need to input the exact locations of the files on your computer (and exact location of the new AC3 file).

Download the latest eac3to from this link. Afterdawn's is usually a few versions behind.

should i try the GUI version, or do i need another codec?

this is the log file after giving it a go...

    eac3to v2.87
    command line: eac3to.exe c:\new\piratessound.aac c:\new\piratessound.ac3 -resampleTo48000
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    AAC, 5.1 channels, 24khz
Decoding with DirectShow (Nero Audio Decoder 2)...
Getting "Nero Audio Decoder 2" instance failed.
    Aborted at file position 49152.
