Well that change was recently introduced in tsMuxer .. In slightly older versions of tsMuxer, you only had the Bluray output option (no AVCHD option). So what if I use an older version of tsMuxer to compile a 'Bluray' Format Disc. Will that be detected as a 'Bluray' Format Disc, or as a 'AVCHD' Format Disc in the PS3?

If you use an older version, and output to Blu-ray on DVD, it will still be AVCHD. There is no way around it, if it's on a DVD... it's AVCHD.

Proper would be exactly 1920x1080, or 1280x720. A lot of MKVs that are widescreen come cropped thus will not display subs or play DTS audio.

There have been workarounds lately, two that I suggested above. Your output should be "AVCHD" if you play your media from a DVD or USB, or "Blu-ray" if your choice of media is Blu-ray.

cochegrus if your file has a height of 584 pixels or higher, you can use mkv2vob and output via AVCHD (to get soft subs) without transcoding.

the only drawback is the picture will be pushed up to the top of the screen with a big black bar at the bottom. mkv2vob tricks the PS3 and is able to get around the 1920x1080 and 1280x720 resolution restrictions this way.

however, if your video's height is less than 584 pixels, then this won't work and you'll have to transcode.

The file suposedly is 720p, i'll have to check, another thing is that I have a mac, i'll try mkv2vob, and i'll see if it works on mac with virtualization or if there is a mac alternative.

I've tryed AVCHD but how can I tell if it has the subtitles, because i've bruned the AVCHD with UDF 2.5 and PS3 recognizes the disc and plays it but when you select subtitles it says this option is no available. So I'm thinking that tsMuxer is not writing the file structure properly. Maybe I'm doing someting wrong. I use the MKV file, ther .SRT file UTF-8, then I add them to tsMuxer, I select the language for the subtitle then AVCHD output and then mux, but maybe I'm missing something. HELP!!!!

What is the video resolution when you add the MKV to tsMuxeR, it should show in the details window after you load the MKV.

    This is the meta file:

    MUXOPT --no-pcr-on-video-pid --new-audio-pes --vbr --vbv-len=500
    V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC, "/Volumes/SimpleDrive/Videos/Series/24/Season 7/24.S07E01.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv", fps=23.976, insertSEI, contSPS, track=2, lang=eng
    A_AC3, "/Volumes/SimpleDrive/Videos/Series/24/Season 7/24.S07E01.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv", track=1, lang=und

That doesn't tell me the actual resolution, however since it is a TV show I am willing to bet it is actually 1280x720. Your subtitle streams may not be compatible.

    Try using Subtitle Workshop.
    -Open the app
-Set the input FPS to 23.976 (or 24000/1001)
-Set the output FPS to the same as the input
-Load the original SRT from the MKV
    -Save-As SubRip SRT.

    This might help.

It worked!!! Thanks a lot. I have another question, can I include several mkv files in one muxing? One more thing, I have a mac, but I run virtualized Windows XP or Windows 7.

Give this a try for several mkvs. Not sure how it will work on a virtual OS.

Hey guys remember I could not demux this file, well it turns out it was corrupted and I tried pointing the save path in the same folder, but to no avail. Until the other day the uploader, uploaded the same movie again. So I saved it to the same path, and it download an extra 10megs. I then was able to demux and everything is working now. Thanks guys great help!

wrong AVC profile perhaps? did you check the former file and then the later file with mediainfo to see if there were changes/differences? i had this issue with some movies i downloaded from a certain guy that encoded them, whereby they wouldnt play on the PS3 - just sound. Eventually changed the AVC profile to get the video playing too.

Yup, that's exactly what it is.

As evo007 suggested it could be the AVC level, try changing it to 4.1 if it is higher. Use tsMuxeR, load the MKV, highlight the video stream in the "Tracks:" section. "Check" the AVC Level check-box, and change to 4.1 if higher. Also, this AVC level has nothing to do with audio.

However if that doesn't work, which I have a feeling it will not... I'm pretty sure that the source was encoded with too many reference frames. The only solution is to re-encode the file. I suggest Ripbot264 for this, I have never used it but I hear it is pretty user friendly.

You may also want to try this uncropMKV. The coder for this app has put together a lot of great apps for video viewing/processing, he is a great contributor at the Doom9 forum. I can pretty much guarantee the uncropMKV will sort out your issue, and most likely less time than Ripbot264. It will take several hours to re-encode a video no matter which app you use.

    Good luck.

yep Odin has hooked you up with the good info. As he also mentioned, it may not work by simply changing the AVC profile, sometimes yes it does work, other times no.

I think you said you wanted to burn/play it via DVD which is fine, my only experience is playing the movies via PS3 and my best conversion results have been via transcoding movies using PS3 media server, which takes the guess work out of any AVC profle or frames issues. It does it all for you, which has taken a lot of pain out of conversions for me!

    cheers

    Hey ptrulls,

you can also move/copy files directly across your network from your PC to your PS3 (via your router) with the PS3 media server software. Its a great piece of software IMHO. You can transcode movies on the fly and also copy transcode them too if your prefer not to use the fly method.

    cheers
