    Hi,
I want to add a 3.5" hdd as my ps3's harddrive and I've seen some sites that show how to do this. My only problem is that the guides that are online use a sata to sata connection. The hdd enclosure I bought only has an esata port. Can anyone give me any ideas of how I can utilize the esata port to connect the hdd to the ps3...........or do I need to buy a new enclosure with sata port?
    Thanks in advance.

i really don't know if this will work.. but i saw on dealextreme.com there was an adapter that was esata to usb 2.0... so you can do it that way.. if it works/even makes a diff via the usb

No, perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't want to have an external hdd, i want to replace my internal ps3 2.5 hdd, with a 3.5 hdd, and I've seen a mod online to do that (i'm sure you guys are familiar with the mod). The only problem is that I don't know how to connect my esata hdd port to the ps3's sata port which the 2.5 hdd connects to.

The 3.5 inch drive was still on the outside of the machine using the mod you're speaking of.

    agreed to what he said..

unless you do some crazy internal constrution with the current hardrive bay you have right now...

the 3.5" hard drive will not fit into the ps3.. i know of the mod you're talking about and scrap my last post...

you can use a sata to esata cable to connect your drive to the sata port... its a really cheap cable but like i said.. you wont fit the hard drive into the ps3. the mod you speak of allowed an external port on the casing of the cap of the hd bay

i would need an esata to 7-pin male sata cable correct? Does such a cable even exist because I have been trying to look for it online but can't find it.

OK, so i've almost got this to work. I have the HDD connected to my ps3, the ps3 has already asked me to format and finished it in 10seconds and after the restart, nothing is happening. The purple wave thingy is going for a long time and pressing the ps3 button doesn't let me restart. Should I wait or force restart with the button in the back? i would really like some help.

Ha Ha I did the same thing with my ps3...I used a 750GB drive and I get the same exact problem...It reformats and then reboots to the wavy background. I would say you're SOL. Ive asked people on this forum for help and on other forums but no one can tell me anything execept that 500gb is the max right now. I will be attempting a 250gb drive later this week for the internal drive.

are you using a raid enclosure? And do you think that partitioning the drive so that the ps3 only sees 500GB would work?

You could try to partition it. I didnt try that. I used an external drive enclosure for the power and a sata male to sata female connector to hook it up to the ps3.

i partitioned using vista it and still the same problem. the problem is that when the ps3 formats the drive, it formats the entire thing (all the partitions). Is there a way i can limit its formatting to only one partition?
