all ps3 games are region free. So yes. to the previous poster, if you are using rca cables, make sure to set your ps3 video output as such. If it is set wrong it won't display correctly.

Anubis, What does owned mean in this situation?
Also, I have a japanese system but I am in USA. I update with all USA updates and haven't had a problem.

I had the horrible buzzing noise in the speakers of my mit 60 incher, and i couldn't turn the volume up very loud without hearing it. I used a makeshift adapter (ripped out the third prong of a power strip) and it works fine. Now to get a long term solution...Anyway THANKS! You guys saved me several frustrating trips to walmart

What else do you have plugged into this power strip that might cause this? Sometimes anything having to do with batteries charging can cause this "whine" you are getting.
Also, I think ripping off the ground to your power strip is not a good idea. If you get zapped by lightning you could shoot your ps3 and mit 60 incher into the ground. LOL. Try plugging your TV only into a different outlet altogether different from the one the power strip is on. Or go out and by a 179.00 monster cable power strip that does the same thing that the one you have now does ... J/K. Good luck with that, I hate whining tv's bleh!!

i meant owned in the fashion that the firmware you say you installed is nt a real firmware. 2.01 was the last one in single digits. and 2.10 or .11 is current. you may need to send it in if you cant update.

Why would anyone download an update that wasn't authentic ie, from sony via the internet through their ps3? Are people really just googling ps3 update and downloading the first thing they see?

    Problem (Sort of):

So i just purchased a 80gb USA PS3. I currently live in canada and subscribe to starchoice (satellite service). When i initially connected my ps3 (using the supplied RCA connection that come included in the package), my satellite went down. But my ps3 was working properly. I did some tests and found that the RG6 line was faulty and recplaced it. To rerun the wire i disconnected my ps3 (so i could properly hide the wires, etc). Upon recconecting the A/V cable tot he back of the ps3, the sat went down again - this time Im thinking the lnb on my satellite has blown. Initially i attributed the RG6 cable going down to a coincidence - the weather was extremely stormy and the cable was aged (10 years at this point). The second time it happened, it was due to my ps3 - no doubt. Can anyone explain this? I also noticed when i initially plugged my ps3 in, my house lights flickered, like it was a huge power draw - now everything is fine and the lights do not dim like the did upon the ps3s initial hook up. Im thinking that while my machine seems to be operating properly it could still be faulty? If anyone can help me gain some insight into this it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Have had my 60gb ps3 for about a month now and finished resistance fall of man with a friend the other night and it locked up at the ending. The disc drive has died and now wont read any games or movies. I called sony australias hotline and now have to send it back for a refurbished unit!
Turn around time for sony is 48hrs but its the 5 days transit either way that annoys me as they wont pay for express postage.
I had version 1.93 installed at the time but also loaded the latest 2.1 to see if it would fix it but didn't.

Just posted this so all would know some potential problems.

    Cheers,
    Brett
