my 4th 360 just crapped out on me...ive tried all weekend to TLC it but getting the RROD...it is covered under best buy warranty so getting a new one is no biggie but heres the dilemma... i bought old one for 349 so get A)360 elite for 299, use extra money to buy warranty for new one B)360 pro for 249, get warranty C)buy elite w/o warranty, sell it and buy ps3 slim D)buy pro w/o warranty, sell it and buy ps3 slim between C and D, which way would i end up with more money if i were to sell on craigslist? I dont do online gaming at all, I stream netflix via comp to TV so no need to have any 360 online access I only ask as I had recently been looking into blu ray player and the games i play are offered on both systems... Anybody with a ps3 and 360 that has a preference on the two? TIA
They are both great systems, and both have their pros and cons. I personally use my ps3 for streaming content from my PC, though that's just because I've got the remote for it. 360 is nice for Xbox Live. I mean if the 360 didn't have Xbox Live, I don't think it would be doing so well. Anyways, it's all on preference, and what you want. Blu-Ray is nice, the games are the same as on the 360, except for the exclusives, and it all just comes down on what you want. PS3 slim is $299, so I don't think you will get much selling a pro system on craigslist to use for a slim. Best bet may be to just buy the Elite, and sell it on eBay or something else, then use the money for a PS3. But again, it's all about user preference. Controllers are a lot different, and many people hate the ps3 controller, so you got to think whether you want that or not.
LOL, at these types of questions. Just think about what you want, look at the games, and then make your decision. I'm a 360 guy.
Actually, if this is your 4th Xbox360, you more than likely have a large game library that the PS3 won't play, correct? Also if this is your 4th Xbox360, I can't help but wonder what you're doing to them (i.e. ventilation area no good).
Only on his fourth... I think that's good! I've had a 360 since it came out, and I think I'm on number 10 now... But mine suffered from the RRoD, and one was banned from Xbox Live (hence the signature). Anyways what guessswho said, is probably your best bet. You're either a 360 person or a PS3 person. I personally play my 360 more. Only time I use my PS3 is for streaming (which the 360 can do), and playing Killzone 2.
my question was for those that had both systems and their personal experience, if you dont have both, then why respond? i dont know if i want a ps3 as i dont have one and have never played one. i stated the games i play are available on both systems so dont need to look at games.
i dont have a large library, its pretty much madden, ncaa football, fifa and tiger...thats all i ever play..not much into shooting games and story games. as for ventilation, it sents on a table by itself with nothing around it, it has all the ventilation it can get.
Well good try. I do have a 360, a wii, and a ps3. So I think I have you covered. Good try though. After having all three, I still recommend a 360. nice try
well seeing how you dont mention that at all in your first post, how am i to know you own both or all 3?
If you do get another 360 try to get a jasper model. The Jaspers run alot cooler than the originals. They use smaller chip sets and more heat sinks. Plus they added built in memory( depends on when it was built, mine has 192mb, some of the newer jaspers have 256 built in them). and try to get a nyko intercooler ts( they come with their own power supply so no power is took from the console. Jasper models will have a 12-1v on the back over the av port
I'd definitely go for an Xbox 360, because you can easily play backups on it and use it as a media center. The graphics on a PS3 and Xbox 360 aren't too different anyways. The PS3 game discs are larger in size (GBs), but it doesn't make the game any better, it just means that the PS3 processors have more encrypted data to go through before it can be executed for gameplay. Get a Jasper, keep it upright and in a well ventilated area. I haven't heard of any Jasper getting an RROD. I've had a Jasper for almost an year. It hasn't crapped out on me yet.
I have always heard to keep the system lying horizontal on a hard flat surface. It apparently vents the heat better. If you have it vertically it can cause the dvd drive to also scratch the discs
Keeping it vertical will allow you to expose the metal casing underneath the motherboard, allowing it to cool (by effectively radiating heat). But honestly, I've seen people use it vertically and horizontally, as long as you have a Japser and it is in an area that is well ventilated (i.e. it is on a desk with a decent amount of open space around it, and not inside a small shelf/cabinet) the console should not RROD. As for the scratching of the discs, I have heard that. I friend said his console scratched his disc, but that was the only time I heard it. I have never had that problem. If the console is on a carpet and standing vertically, then I can see it rocking back and forth when the DVD drive goes nuts reading the disc, that could cause it to scratch it. But I might be wrong.
Xbox 360 is nice, cause you can backup your games (even though most people don't backup their games, they just download them...), but you really don't need to worry about backups on the PS3, cause the blu-ray discs are pretty tough. I mean I'm not saying they are able to be cracked, but if you get scratches on the disc, you can still play it for some time. They don't scratch as easy as DVD's. But if you don't play online a whole lot, then I would recommend the PS3, just because I mean it has online and it's free, but it's nothing compared to Xbox Live. Games will basically look the same, so it's all on preference! Also with PS3 you can upgrade the HDD to 500GB if you wanted to. It doesn't have a lock on how big of a HDD you can use for the system.
Don't waste your money on either xbox 720 (xbox 3)is due out 2010,the PS4 sometime around 2012 & yes you can quote me on that Edit: so spread the word the new consoles are on their way & you heard it here first ps: if anyone is good at photo shop feel free to post piks
thanks to the few of you that actually had some insight on the topic, thanks for renaming my title, and those that posted useless blabber, piss off
Hey I also own both systems and while I do think the ps3 is a better deal then the 360 (hardware wise and has slightly better graphics) I would still recommend you just get a 360. You have already had four of them so you probably have a lot of friends that you game with. and Like someone else said you probably already have a library of games for it. But if you don't care about that then maybe a ps3 is for you. I can say first hand the online is not bad at all. I play resistance 2, killzone 2, battlefield bad company, socom confrontation, metal gear 4 and motor storm online with no lag whatsoever. not bad for a free service i think.plus I always hate how you have to pay for the 360's live service and there are still ads on it. and a lot of games have lag. like gears with their crappy super host stuff and halo with the dissapeering players. xbox 360 does have those cool videos that show you how to get achievements and stuff on the dash, but then their is ps home and M.A.G; a 256 player first person shooter for the ps3... Maybe you should just get both?
Personally I think what you've said scorpNZ is completely unnecessary, how does this help the OP with his perfectly legitimate question? We should be having more discussions like this, instead of each new thread being about some noob who can't be arsed reading. Why bother posting dribble?
