evry1 should keep in mind that sony loses money on the ps3. they sell it for less than what it cost to manufacture

 

We already know that. The thing is what should they sell it for so they at least get some people to buy it while losing the least amount of money on it as possible. 500 is too much in my eyes and 300 would be too low for them. They should just sell it for 400.

 

I'm expecting $500. I'd be surprised at a higher price, but I'd also be equally surprised if it's below $425.

i agree,i would imagine a price similar to the xbox 360,but am also expecting it to be a bit higher tham M$ xbox 360.
i remember when the PS2 was launched in australia,don't quote me on this one,as it is from memory only,around the $750-800AUD the xbox 360 at the moment is retailing at around the $399-449AUD and thats just the basic pack(no HDD),the full premium pack,i think it's called is going for $649.00AUD

you would actually pay 600, the 360 and ps3 are going to be very close in comparison to each other, just buy the 360 and save 300 dollars holy crap.

 

saving 300 dollars doesnt mean much. they both (360 and ps3) perform about the same (dont want to create an arguement here ), but it matters for what games you want to play >_< . for me, there are HEAPS of playstation2 games that i want released on ps3.

saving dollars means A LOT to me, but wont get me far in this regard

 

@ colinman i dont think the two system going to be close PS3 will have Blu-Ray 360 wont.There is some talk about 360 having a HD-DVD drive if so then your going to pay just about the samething as the PS3.

 

The New edition of PSM says it should come in at about $400. They said its salted to sell in Japan for $425 and we usually get it a little cheaper than they do.

i think,well it is,a wait and see game at the moment,i can't see it being below $500,especially IF they are going to use blu-ray.i have heard, that, they may not even use the blu-ray yet,(only a rumor).i have also read about free online play as well,but the story hasn't convinced me that it will be.i cannot see sony losing so much on a console,sure there are losses on consoles sold,but not to the extent that sony are talking about,if they sell it for say $400,thats going to be a loss of $400-500 a console,(taking into account that they go ahead with blu-ray-and the cost of the PS 3 according to ken katurgiri,sorry if last name mispelled),it's going to take a very good game(s) to recoup that cost,and also free online play,it just doesn't make economical buisness sense.

 

Yes but if they sell between $400 - $500 they will at least sell some. If they sell it for like $600 or $700 they won't sell any at all which would be a much bigger loss.

but the PS3 console has been seen to have been playing games,some critics have already compared it to the xbox 360,their opinions vary,not greatly,but do vary,but they say it only just comes in closely,early days i know,and time for improvement,but the xbox 360,as i hear has other things in the pipeline for updates on the 360 as well,making that more competitve with sony.
i realise that the games tested on the working consoles(PS3)proto types i guess,would be demos,but it gives the critics something to work on,and to compare against rival game consoles.

not necassarily,they have to have a starting point on the price,which has been stated by ken at sony,he can't see sony selling at less than $800-900USD,their loss would be significant,and i can't see sony wanting to make to much of a loss,as we all know,and have stated,it's a wait and see game,but it has been stated by sony themselves of what price it would more than likely launch at,with that in mind,as time goes by,manafacturing costs for the processors ,etc,etc get cheaper,sony will then be able to offer the console at a cheaper price.
