PS3 Refuses to Play Certain Games

    Everytime i try to play certain games like RSV2 , burnout paradise and the motorstorm 2 demo my ps3 keeps shutting down by it self 5-10 min into the game, But i can play Mercs 2, the fifa 09 demo and battlefield BC for example for hours and nothing happens the ps3s fine , it doesnt even shut down by it self on the XMB

    I really dont understand the problem , why just these games?? , anybody have any solutions , i'm thinking about formating my ps3 but i dont want to lose my save data and game data

    i dont think formating the harddrive would solve the promblem if it shutting down from games. may be a fault with your system

    yeah but why does this not happenen with all my games? , just these few..anything i can do besides send it back to sony?

    Have you tried erasing the demos and re-downloading them out of curiosity sake?

    yeah, i have even formated the harddrive but it did no good

    formatted? from the ps3 or from the computer? Please tell you did not format it using any pc or mac....?

    Well, you can try replacing the hard drive if the unit is out of manufacturer's warranty. If under this the wisest move would be to give them a jingle. Believe when I say if under the year they will want to do everything in their power to keep you a customer because of the xbox 360. Its a decent system too, but unlike the ps3 the xbox has serious heat issues which literally melt the solder from the gpu chip within about a year even with an after market cooling accessory.

    They may also be able to help you fix it over the phone in the under warranty case, if your patient and careful with you words. Don't bribe or make the threat of going the other console... say it in an offhanded way, or as next step suggestion. I've heard some people got some success, and others did not have any.

    The hard drive inside the ps3 is usually a sata laptop hard drive... and yes you can go much bigger than what you have and not have a problem with your ps3. Just let the console do the formatting work and everything should be okay.

    I am however concerned nonetheless. Someone else who I've been helping has been reporting the same problem, but with different games. He also seems to be having an overheating issue too... have you noticed any trouble the cooling of your unit?
