hi I have a ps3 80gb, and these last few months some games, that are cod mw2 and mw3, and tomb raider 2013 my system shuts off in certain points, for example on cod games it shuts off about 10 minutes into gaming, and tomb raider shuts off exactly when the main title start to appear. other games does not and play for hours. I have noticed that these games that shuts off the system, does not appear in the file data utility, are these games read only from disc?, because im thinking its an hdd problem, cause my ps3 is not overheating. anyone could help me out pls? thanks
thanks for your reply, the problem isn't my hdd space, because i always delete the games after playing game, i always play one game after i finish i delete. the problem is the system is shutting down by itself with 3 beeps flashing red light, and it shuts off during certain games and also at the same points. i want to know if it is a hdd issue, or something else. thanks
Don't know anything about ps3 however the 3 beeps are most likely an audible error code (pc's have it ) along with the red flash.Do a web search on the 3 beeps & the amount of flashes there is you may find the cause.shutting off at the same point would suggest perhaps bad blocks on the hdd if you have a spare one try that in it's place
Actually, that's just the standard "There's something wrong"-signal, no actual code what's defective. YLOD looks absolutely the same, just happens when you power on the console, not 10 minutes into the game. Could be everything, from laser going bad, to bad PSU or bad harddrive. I'd test another harddrive, if the PS3 still doesn't work correctly then, I'd get a new (used) one.
its already updated with the latest firmware 4.80, i also cleaned the vents with a vacuum, i have also did a file system restore, and its doing the same thing, shuts down exactly when tomb raider begins to load the main screen, or loading my profile of the game, boom shuts off with 3 beeps and a flashing red. Is there an expert who could help me out what appears to be the problem?. some say its an overheating issue, but first of all my ps3 is not that hot to be overheated, and second its shuts off after a few seconds into the game, and also my fans seems to be working good.
As I already wrote, it's the same signs that a YLOD shows, that's why some people think it's an overheating issue (even though even the YLOD isn't mainly caused by overheating, that's just a rumor). See the first 10 seconds of this video and you'll know what I mean: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsrMgIbLrlg It's either the laser, or the PSU or the harddrive. Get a YLOD PS3 off ebay (should be around 10 USD) for spares, but make sure it's the same model as yours and the harddrive and drive aren't missing. Then switch the harddrive, if it still doesn't work switch the PSU, and if that doesn't help switch the drive, but remember that you have to use your old driveboard.
hi thanks for your answer, I think its the HDD because, when i played cod mw 2 and 3, the shut down happened in the same spot, then i restart th system, of course it will do a system restore, playing the game again and it goes for hours playing. same with tomb raider, just start up the game in the main menu it shuts off 3 beeps and a blinking red light, restore system, restarts, and i can play the games for hours. I did a system restore and happened again, should i maybe do a full restore of the ps3 ? thanks
is it an overheating issue, because when i turn on my ps3, cool air comes out from the rear vents, then i put tomb raider disc it loads till the main title screen then at that very spot it shuts off the system, 3 beeps and flashing red light. how can it be overheating when its only seconds powered on. then after the shut down it restarts again and then for the second time i can play the game for hours with no problems.
bad sectors on hdd does not cause such drastic shut down... if you play a game and its not installed in anyway to the hdd and only needs to write a save or read info from the hdd it may freeze or fully crash... but not shut down in such a way... so do some tests.... 1. take out the hdd plug it into a pc.... DO NOT let operating system on the pc format the drive.... run a sector scan/deep sector scan/read the smart data from the hdd to see its health if its bad or not.... 2. if you think its overheating check the fans.... one way to check if the ps3 can ramp up the fans is just to do fan test unplug the power cable from the ps3 hold eject button and plug the cable back again it will turn on the ps3 and the fan will be at its maximum... 3. you can test the psu.. but i rather have not you do that... that's rather complex you can check the psu output if its at 12volts.. you can also test the loads on the psu when the game runs... each game can stress the psu in a different way... 4. do some maintenance... this is the territory when you would dismantle the ps3 and replace the thermal grease if you have that ps3 for years i would advice you to change the thermal grease... get a good thermal grease like noctua or any other that is used in water cooling DO NOT get grease based on metals... the ps3 has an aluminium blocks... i would also advice listening to eisherz... get a cheap ylod from ebay same model as your ps3 and to try swapping parts...
If you do not remove the heatshields over the CPU and GPU changing the thermal grease on these heatshields is actually not all that useful. And I highly recommend NOT to remove the heatshields, because you'll do more damage than good, especially if you don't know what you're doing.
well changing the grease on my ps3s helped even if it drops 5c im happy with it but yeah i agree its not really advised... the thing that bothers me the most is why didn't they use copper core based blocks.... i mean the console w/o proper cleaning can look like this lol http://imgur.com/qEKbeFD
That's an easy one. Price. Sony builds a great console and uses a cheap-ass laser to save a few pennies, which then leads to them delaying the release date in Europe for more than half a year because of problems. Thank god I didn't just eat. I have seen a few really dirty ones (smokers shouldn't be allowed to sell their hardware without cleaning it first), but this one is just ... ewww.
yeah i know where you coming from.... im a smoker but my stuff is always clean... im kinda ocd about temperature its a pain in the ass when the ambient temp is around 30 and the ps3 running at close to 70 lol i should just put water cooling on my ps3 n xbox360 lol something like this https://i.ytimg.com/vi/c9ljxNykQx4/maxresdefault.jpg just w/o the pc
