That's exactly how my process is ...EVERY TIME... I play a backup. I have not had a problem with using Devil May Cry and NBA V3 as originals(DVD5) and God Of War original for DVD9. I've switched out a lot of games let me tell ya. Maybe there is a processor or chip of sorts that gets corrupted after reading the wrong type of disc on that board under the BRD ??? Hate to here your having so much trouble SupraGaz EDIT: Just for the knowledge, USA 1.10 60gb updated to 1.32 FW
So it isnt just me now that can not load DVD's. Cd'd worked fine and swapped without no problems. I fixed the PS3 for my friend and warned him to leave the switch method for abit and I returned the system to original functionality. Hopefully a cause myabe found so this method can be used in the future by us again, but for now we'll be leaving it well alone. Was good while it lasted though.
Supragaz, did you bought the BRD Mainboard directly from Sony? And how much did you paid for it? I think the only solution for me will be replacing it also... Thanks
I had another PS3 spare so I could transfer bits over and test to find the problem. I dont know where else you would get one from. Try ebay? I dunno...
I told you guys that this "Switch method" isnt safe.i belive that the problem is the driver ic.If someone could measure the values from a working driver IC, than it would be possible for SupraGaz and BrazilGuy test yours.Sony is having troubles to find a good working driver Ic since they stop using the BA in the first models of the PS2 units.
This sounds like the problem as it controls the motor for dvd laser. Replacement chip is around $15. See if you have LA6508 IC.
For those who got the mod working, can someone test to swap a PS2 CD backup, any title will do, with the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo CD (Zone OF Enders "bonus disc") ? I don't have gameshark or other original PS2 CD so i would like to know if this one (MGS2 Demo) works good for the PS2 CD swap. Thanks. In other words, i really hope that you guys will manage to fix your PS3s, especially I hope if the solution is only 15 usd. Now i'm afraid to swap DVDs! See you, TSR
Is correct, but ur 3-way switch pin4-3, pin1-6 should be connect. Im still working on it and ChokeDYou has done he trick with my idea. u can get the full information on PAGE 6
HE he HE he !!! Update: I found a usable power source and this helped me a bunch. I now know what I need to convert my source I found down to 3v for the motor, but I still need to do some testing before I go public with it because I don't want people trying this without doing it myself for a length of time to find out whether there are future problems or not. In other words I don't want someone to screw their PS3 up because of me. I will post back as soon as I feel comfortable that it's all good. I can tell you it involves a few(4) resistors in a closed circuit. Till the next time, PEACE ,,ii, ChokeDYou
By the way. The sensor itself, the red and black wires that have that yellow connector, its only for power right? in which case can't I use an external source for powering the sensor? just incase I want to return the PS3 to its original functionality. I accidentally pulled the 2 wires off right from the connectors, and I was playing around for hours trying to some how get it back into the connector, but thats broken too . So anyone know if I can just use a external source for power, and if so, what kind of voltage or w/e does it require?
I'm using hot swap, witout any switches (like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcqUjp4WxdY ) I have no problem yet.
I have an idea how to make swap safe. Every time when you use the switch to eject dvd, it just ripped disc from working console, its VERY VERY bad for laser, and for whole drive too, so how to aviod this? Its very simple. Every time when you swap, you need wait for 5 minutes. Why? Because when you insert disc it spinning exactly 5 minutes, then drive stops automaticly, laser going OFF, now you can eject disc without damaging laser. Its very important to wait 5 minutes every time when you swap, other way you just kill dvd part of your PS3.
vaan, good video & good info! Can you time with a stopwatch _exactly_ how long it takes for the laser to stop after inserting an original? Also any of you guys using "Metal Gear Solid 2 Demo" original CD (that came with Zone of enders as bonus disc) to boot your PS2 CD backups? If so does it work well? Later, TSR
yeah that's the problem, with the ps3 fan i can't hear much. So i guess 6 minutes would be way past the danger zone. I'll do that from now on, frankly i don't mind waiting 6 minutes when i do 4-5 hours game session after Thanks, TSR
Well, I have a better solution to that...I think. When I listen for the laser, I can hear it reading, but only when I am under the game icon. It seems if you move to a different icon in the XMB, say Video or Audio or Network or anything else, the laser stops reading. So best thing to do, is put in the original, then move over to a different icon in the XMB and eject, load backup and go back to the game icon and load game. I would recommend verifying this first, I am pretty sure this is safe though.
