I'm using Demo disk from OPM2 for DVD backups, and i think old demo cd from OPM should work for PS1 backups too.
Thanks vaan, while those may be tough to find. So i guess nobody uses either REZ or MGS2 DEMO to boot PS2 CDs, i wanted to buy one of them. And we got no confirmation yet if Swap Magic 3.6 (the current version) stops the disc or not or even works on PS3 at all (i've heard too that some Swap magic versions are blacklisted on ps3..) So well, if anyone ordered a Swap Magic 3.6, please report your findings. Not having to wait 5 minutes each time before swaping sounds good to me Later, TSR
Finished my (1switch) mod few hrs ago. Major thanks to the OP. I've lost track of how many of you guys have failed drive. Original loader: God of War (DVD9). v1.82
i can confirm swap magic version 2, stops the disc spining right away whn says insert disc + works on my 1.7 ps3
ok roger that chrissy12. I doubt it's different in later SwapMagic versions, so it's cool. Still a confirmation for version 3.8 or 3.6 would be nice, for both CD and DVD. Later, TSR
I ordered "Swap Magic 3.6 Plus" JAPAN version on divineo china. It looks like it's the definitive addon for the switch mod. I'll let you know how it turns out when i get my hands on it. Later, TSR
What if we just put another switch to turn the laser and motor off/on? We could turn it off, change the disc and then turn it on again.
My switch stopped working today, I think there was a short between my connection and the metal plate, I used hot glue to insulate and ps3 gets hot. my mistake. what happened was that it was working fine, and i ejected the disc. yet the motor for ejection didnt stop but all the sudden it was running even faster as if higher voltage was going through. so i turned my console off, rewired everything and still no go. my sensor works perfect but the small PCB next to motor seems to be fried or something. o wellz. I can load the disc by switch, but if i wanna retain the original function, I have to press eject then use the switch. w/o sensor, I have to turn off console every single time I load a new disc. sucks! when you guys do this, dont make stupid mistake like me by using hot glue gun.
Hmm i tried various ways of booting PS1 games and it seems it doesn't work at all. So I'm now wondering if ANYONE got PS1 imports or backups working with the swap trick? Here they give a black screen everytime :/ Later, TSR
I can still boot games, i play parappa the rapper and bloody roar 2 all the time. like i said i use my interactive demo disc(ps1) as original.
Hey Headuno, I finally managed to boot every PS1 backups as well. The problem is that unlike PS2 games, PS1 backup imports need patching before they run on the PS3. Ie: I got a JPN PS3 and want to play a PS1 USA backup, i need to patch it before and change its region to JPN, then it'll play on PS3 OK. I used a utility called SetRegion that I downlaoded from megagames.com, worked like a charm! The 5 minutes wait still apply for PS1 games, but no big deal. Later, TSR ps: i should receive "SwapMagic version 3.6+ JPN" before the end of the week. I'll report how it works on PS3 and if it allows to swap directly without waiting 5 minutes..
So i finally finished the mod (one switch) and put everything back together. The motor works fine but in the first two tries, it didn't pull the disc in completely and the disc kept spining while part of it was sticking out (as the motor was running). So I manually gave it a slight nudge, and now everytime the motor runs, the disc goes in completely. But the problem is that nothing is being read by my ps3. Can anyone help me out here?
check that the huge ribbon cable at the back of the bd drive is properly inserted ALL THE WAY to the max. This problem happened to me the first time i put my ps3 together after installing the switch. Later, TSR
i ordered a new ps3 laser from ebay this week. $75 with shipping and handling. the dvd part of my laser died a dew days after i had the switch in. trying to load dvd's when ps3 is in blu-ray mode and vica versa is not a good idea. LOL my mistake. and i think i really like the ps3 intercooler idea someone had about mounting the switch on the intercooler. i will certainly be doing that ASAP. i've read on here that some people may have messed up lasers too. so i will post shortly on how good new lasers from ebay work. i'm sure alot of you have seen the ottoman video about the iso loader. any ideas? off topic but just curious. wether or not it's real remains to be seen, but i gotta say i would like to see an iso loader that works in a similar way. i could imagine one working that way. and i read dark alex is leaving the psp scene. Sure wish he would come and help out the ps3 scene. some of the best software out there for the psp. nobody here knows how to program or do this type of software stuff? there's gotta be and it needs to be worked on=)
The laser is not the problem when DVD's fail to load. I did afew days testing on this with afew PS3's. See back acouple of pages. I chnaged numerous parts to try and find which part was failing and your problem is not the laser.
well if it's not the laser then where do i get a new circuit board? and how much? i've seen the entire drive for $300 and there's no way i'm paying that much. i'll throw my ps3 out the window and do a burnout on it with my car before i blow $300 on a new one. any idea what the problem is with the board and is it fixable? someone was asking about swap magic 3.6 and for me it did not stop the dvd from spinning. i find that weird cause someone else said version 2.0 did stop the dvd from spinning. and my swap magic 3.6 cd version loaded half the time for me
Pizzag, I dunno much about your problem or Pspwiimod's. But I know SupraGaz had the same problem I have (not reading DVDs / but CD and BR works). The Sony's tech support guys I've talked with told me it's probably the BA chip (just like Samhung suggested), since it's only the DVD that's not working. Getting a new BA chip here in Brazil would cost me $40, but I have a friend coming from the US in a couple of weeks, so I asked him to buy one for me for $14. I'm looking foward to do the replacement! (I'll keep you guys posted). PS: Those 2 guys from Sony tech support here in my town even asked me how I've managed to do the mod! :0 I didn't tell them about the forum though, since they were Sony's capitalist spies motherf*s heheh
Tsrps3, the only original CD game I have is Star Wars Racer, but it sucks! The only backup games that worked so far are the small ones (around 300mb). What would you think it's better for me to buy? An original used one? Or swap magic 3.6 NTSC (my PS3 is NTSC)...? And if I bought a original one, which game?
