As far as I know this is the only way to play the backups.
Maybe there are people with a other way to play backups without opening the ps3, but they dont put there idea on a site cause sony maybe lett the method not working in new firmware. (I hope you can read my English a little bit)

its all u guys fault that the companies cannot make good games because u guys make them lose money doing this dumb crap. dont be cheap buy ur games. and why buy them when u want backups. whats the point of buying dvd-rw's plus a 60 dollar game.

Dude seriously think a little bit... i buy my games, $60 a piece, right now i have 10 games ($600), i dont consider it an investment (because you lose money over time), but i want to protect my purchase, and the only way is to make backups (to keep originals safe from sratching). I have around 60 xbox 360 games (around $3,600), and i have backups for everyone of them; i prefer to scratch a $3 than a $60 disc. Maybe you take care of your games, but when you have little children visiting (as i imagine most of us do) and wanting to play, accidents just happen....before you speak and flame/insult everybody think a little bit, and listen you might learn something new that will eventually lead to a hobby/interest/or something to do better than focus on your self ignorance....

    Hey guys,
Question to anyone using the mod that has the PS3 opened so it's possible to see the laser activity..

I've been thinking about the "Eject Disc" feature. (when you press triangle over a game/movie DVD, CD & BD, there is a new feature "Eject Disc" on firwmare 1.90)

It would make sense to me that the Eject Disc function stops the laser activity first and then ejects the disc from the console. it HAS to, otherwise it would scratch the disc..

With that in mind, would the following scenario work:
    - insert the original
    - wait for about 40 seconds for the PS3 to authenticate the disc
    - use the "Eject Disc" feature, the PS3 stops the laser (?)
    - use switch manually to remove the original
(since sensor is off, ps3 doesn't detect it)
    - use switch manually to insert the backup
    - then just launch the game as if nothing happened ?

Since the sensor is OFF, the PS3 shouldn't detect that the original has been replaced with a backup and authentication should still be ok, i wonder..

It's a major pain in the ass for me to re-open the ps3 to see if the laser stops as soon as the Eject Disc feature is used, which is a crucial point for this to work, so if anyone with the PS3 opened can check that out...

OK BIG TIME NEWB Question, what type of wire do you use for the soldering? I never soldered before an I was just curious about that. Will audio wire work or is that just a STUP*D question???

You can use every wire but the best wire is a thin but strong wire. And if you never soldered before you shouldn't do it into your ps3.
First practise on less expensive stuff and if you think you can do it, you heve less change to destroy the system.

Has anyone firmware 1.92 already, or can confirm this still works in 1.92?

Def true. i wouldn't recommend anyone but an EXPERIENCED solderer to mess around with a PS3. What would they charge for soldering? maybe 50-60. Is it worth losing a $500 investment over 50-60? i don't think so....

TSR, does the Breaker Pro work on PS3? I have a PS2 slim & it still works with the newest version. But i don't know if Sony programmed PS3 to lock out Breaker Pro for PSX games or not.

btw, anyone trying to mod any electronics should invest in an electrostatic wrist strap. It takes away the static discharge. Rub your feet rapidly on a shag carpet & go touch some metal doorknob to find out what i mean *evil grin*

So does it still work on 1.92.
Some people say their original games don't even work somehow.

Works fine on my ps3 with 1.92.
I thought the new firmware or the 80 gb model doesnt have emotion chip anymore so dont support all ps2 games the \60 gb model did.

A couple of questions that I may have overlooked.

1.)My action replay does not work on ps3. If I do a swap and load my armax will it boot?

2.)Does this work for dual layer dvds? I'm keeping into account that I would have to use a dual layer boot disc(God of War)?

3.)Can I run ps2 homebrew that I have put on a disc such as my custom guitar hero, codemajic, snes station, and other elf files?

4.)How likely is it that Sony will patch this with a firmware update?

5.)Should I do this if I have my exploited ps2 sitting beside my ps3?

6.)If backups are made of ps3 games does anyone believe that this will be the method to boot them(which if the answer is yes then forget I even asked question 5)?

    2. You can swap a original dual layer disc with a backup dual layer disc and you can swap original DVD with backups DVD. If you want to play a dual layer backup you need a original dual layer game (like god of war).

    4. I dont think it is very likely cause this mod is out for mounts and about 5 new firmware's came since then and still not fixed.

    5. I cant imagine a reason why you should do it when you have modded ps2 allready.

    6. I think some people allready tried to swap original blu-ray with backup. So far (half year) I heard nobody succesfully playing ps3 backup. I dont think it is possible whit just swap switch.

I'm going to collect what i need and get somewhere professional to do this for me and had a couple of quick questions.

    1. If i can't find this exact plug what other plugs will work?
    2. Wires coming of 4 and 5 go into the plug-in power adapter right?, Than where does the plug-in power adapter go?, Inside ps3 or out?
    3. The other 2 switches that you can put it where do they go?, How do they work?, Is there a tut on them at all?
    4. Is there anyway to open it up without voiding the warrenty?

Has anyone managed to get this running from a 3V source in the PS3?

This site lists the different PS3 parts, several are 3V or 3.3V.

Would it be possibly to power it from one of these?

If not, would it be possible to simply use a 5V to 3.3V Voltage regulator from the 5V source?

Could we power it from the 3V system battery?
