PS3 Swap Switch Tutorial

thanks for the quick reply.. when you say "drive controller board" is that the piece that the ribbon cable connects to?

 

Yes thats the one, that green board. Some say it cannot be replaced but others say that if you get the same revision (same circled letter and number on the right hand corner) it can be replaced.

 

thanks for the help. i went back and disassembly the all the circuit boards on the blu ray drive, reconnected and now its working

This might be a stupid question. i reconnect my load sensor and when i put a disc into my ps3 i thought the disc would be automatically sucked in, instead it didn't, it only beep, turning on the ps3 and i guess that means the sensor works, and i was wondering if this is suppose to happen... even though i have my original wires connected to the blu ray motor along with the switches wires.

 

Shit....I did this mod perfectly, but ended up accidentally sending the 3 volts down the wrong wires, and of course to the motor controller board, and the now original functionality does not work. This is the board I am talking about.

If I get a replacement for that little board, will it work? Or is the problem somewhere deeper?

 

I have the same thing. I'm not thinking about buying a new circuit board (are pretty expensive I think) and hope that will solve the problem.
So now, if I eject a disc I press the eject button (blue led starts to flash) and then I use my switch to eject it. Sensor still works, so inserting disc, just put disc in, led starts to flash but ps3 doesnt suck disc in, then use switch to suck it in.

It's not much work (if you install switch on a nice place), so I dont really mind anymore my original eject button doesnt work anymore. But if there was a free solution forthis offcoarse I would do it.

 

If you wired this up correctly when the sensor switch and motor switch are set to on, the ps3 should return to original functionality. This means you have made an error somewhere. Probably in the motor switch wires.

Once the ps3 is on does it then automatically suck disks in or still no?

 

I cant be sure but i know that if you buy the laser replacement with the laser deck/assembly then you get the little board with it, that is your only hope to find this part easily. I cant say if it is anywhere deeper so you just have to try.

Can some1 help me on this? I've been trying to play ps2 backups in my ps3 using the swap trick and none of my backups (fully) work. As irony would have it, the game that best plays is another region 1(shouldn't these not work at all anyway???). I can't even play backups of my own original ps2 games!
I use dvd decrypter in windows vista 32 bits, verbatim dvd's and tried writing in various speeds, mostly at 1x though, since I understand that slower is better. No matter how much I experiment on different ways of burning I always get the same results from same games...That said, I don't think it's the quality of the dvd or my burning procedure that's wrong here...maybe my ps3 has a probem??

When you say fully work what do you mean exactly, i think the problem is the TOC (size) of the original disk.

you need to insert an original that is bigger/the same in data size as the backup.

You also need to use an original ps2 game that matches your ps3, so ntscu (usa), ntscj (jap) or pal (europe). A good original to use is devil may cry 1 or 2.

You must ONLY use a ps2 original to boot ps2 games, no dvd videos, blurays, ps1 games. If you use a different format you ae likely to damage the ps3.

To test if this is the problem put in a original and swap with a backup of the exact same game, if this loads the size of your originals is the problem.

ill tell you one more thing you should do, once you put the ps2 original in you should wait 10 minutes for the disk to stop spinning, swapping the disk when the disk is spinning can eventually damage the ps3 laser.

After 10 minutes then swap with the backup

 

Thank's again mate, I dind't know it would damage the laser! Btw, can I play other region games this way(provided of course that the original is of my region)? I ask this because my I used my pal san adreas to play narutimate accel 2 and though it doesn't freeze as much as before, it still freezes in vital points....Pal backups seem to work perfect though and I'm totally happy with that))))))))

 

Yes other region games do work this way, the game may not be burned correctly, try another import game, it should work

hm....all of my downloaded isos(exept for 1 i'm not sure about yet)are freezing in many points(not as much as they did with the toc problem though )...since a backup of 1 of my games is working perfectly, I assume I have crappy isos...
You wouldn't knowany good site to download ps2 isos from, would you?

 

The best option is to get an original and back them up yourself, The easiest place you could get an iso is a torrent site.
