yes the above poster is correct, u may have assembled the bluray drive lid incorrectly, remove the lid and place it back carefully making sure the plastic parts are placed correctly, those two arms that go up and down at the front of the drive must be correctly positioned. if there is a disk inserted i think they should be up
I think my best bet is just to keep the switch there and possibly lose original functionality. I actually soldiered a on/off switch to the 3 way switch and a separate on/off switch to the sensor wire to maintain original functionality. It could be that I soldiered it wrong. But if everyone says that it is safe to wait until 8mins 30sec then switch the back up ps2, and use the eject button and switch together to swap original discs, then that might be the only way to go. I just got back from work and time to get my soldering machine into action. I hope I can get it back to that original mod stage. Fingers crossed!!
Bad news mate... My switch works. But when I load the cd in. Nothing happens. The ps3 doesn't seem to be reading the cd. Does this mean that my blue ray dvd drive is kaput? At the moment, would it be possible to replace the drive and would it be expensive? Or is there something else I can do? I have heard reading through some of the posts that it is possible to buy a new laser and replace that part. *Sigh*
hang on a sec. How come when I load the CD in first while the back switch is off. Then flick the switch at the back of the ps3 and turn on. it works? But when I try to load it while on stand by it won't work? Is this good news for me? So All I have to do is load it while the ps3 is off, then turn on the switch to make it run. Can I do this with PS2 copy games too?? What a relief!!
Sorry to bug you guys once again. Just a question, because I'm assuming you all have modded switches like mine. But possibly alot better job than I have. Is the spinning of the CD meant to be a loud noise? And should I unplug the switch after the cd is in not to overload power into the mainboard? Many thanks for all your help guys. James (One theory I might have why the cd doesn't load when the ps3 is on, is maybe they might have put on some new firmware that detects this loading thing ? )
No the spinning should not be so loud, it should sound like and mall motor, your disks might be touching something, check that its all put back together correctly, and yes once the disk is in turn the switch off
Can you load original blu-ray games? and ps2 games? So does the ps3 only not read the backed up cd's, or also not original CD games?
I'm going to try the load the back ups now. After turning on, I am going to wait 8mins 30secs before I do that. (For the laser to stop spinning) Loading FF10 hopefully will have a big enough TOC to load something like king of fighters 2000. I just hope that once I plug in my power adaptor for the motor switch it doesn't overload the mainboard. Here goes!
I live in England, tho im not English, lol Is there a big time difference, where are u from? Try to take it apart and put it back together Are u from Aus by any chance?
Few more questions.. Are the original wires from the motor still connected + the extra wires? or did you unsolder them and soldered the new wires? And what about your power supply? is is correct power? (about 3 a 4 volts, like 2 AA batteries) And I am from the Netherlands if you want to know from me too.
That's pretty cool we're from all over the place. Wished we lived alot closer so that we could meet up n chat. I'm from Australia. You're right! I'll have a look at reassembling my blue ray drive after getting back from work. I can't use the afterdawn forum at work cos its block by content keeper filter website. grr.. To David, my original black and red wires are not attached to anything and are just put to the side with special tape. I just soldered a a foot long of red wire to original red part of the motor and and a foot long of black wire to where the black wire was originally on the motor. Then these two wires are just wired to my switches. Is it possible to purchase the whole official sony blue ray drive and just replace it? (if all else fails?) btw.. How come it says both of you guys are junior members? Because it seems you have posted alot and know alot about this technical stuff.
Yeh, i just joined the forum again recently but i was a member years ago, anyway, if you can get a new drive, you can replace it but the green drive board under the bluray drive must be swapped onto the replacement drive (this is the board that connects all the ribbon cables to the drive) i hope this helps But dont worry yet, give rebuilding it a try and see what happens. Im going to sleep now but your going to work, when you get home thats roughly the time i wake up. Funny how this time difference thing works
If the original wires are not connected to motor, the switch cant sent any power to the main board, wich wcan kill eject button. My eject button died cause I DIDNT removed those wires. I dont know if its bad for ps3 when you press eject but power cant go to motor cause wires are disassebled. I thought you can but blu-ray drives on ebay, but I know nothing about installing them. I only joined this forum for this mod, so all my posts are on this thread. Thats why there are not so many. For the rest I'm only at Dutch forums cause my english is not that good.
Gday AV, I think I'm gonna have an early one tonight. Only had about 6hrs sleep for the past few days. hehe. If I'm going to sleep, that means you'll be coming home from work I guess? I gave my PS3 to this repair guy who fixes consoles, and he said he'll have a look at it over the weekend. He will try to put it back to it's orignal state, so maybe he might put in a new laser or chip. But he reckons that the laser lens will cost about 120.00AUD. and labour maybe 80.00AUD if he's able to fix it. I'm Really curious how he's going to fix the sensor wires so that it will revert back to original functionality, so that the cd can go in and out. I hope he doesn't rip me off. ! When the repair guy looked at my PS3, he said "What a frigging big switch!!!" hahaha (The three way switch, hanging by the wires out of the side of the machine) But David, You're right. I didn't realise that the power weas not going through the main board and only the wire! I'm so silly! I really appreciate the effort you guys go out to help people on this forum out of your own good will. My hat off to you guys. If the repair man can't fix it, then I have to ask for your expert advice. (The repair man guy hasn't heard of this switch mod!!) This sat he will give me a call to let me know the story, and I will update you guys on that day. Have a super great weekend guys whichever part of the world you are, and whatever the time difference. ;-)
