PS3 Vs. XBOX 360

nice rig dan.hows the sli compared to the regular pci express.im thing of buying and building a comp and im swaying towards a msi platium neo 4 sli with an x2or 64 processor[not sure].what im trying to say is how fast and without problems is your comp or do you have lag problems and weird things happen in games like everyone else.i was wondering should i blow money or wait another 6 months for the x3 processor to come out[ lol]

 

Hi rugripper. No doubt we'll get some stick for going off topic a bit but P Sli is.....okay. Not really worth the extra $$ at the moment to be honest but maybe that's becasue Nvidia and software devolpers have not got around to really harnessing it's potential yet. Also there is no software out yet that was designed specifically with Sli in mind. Not too many probs though. I would stick with one 7800 GTX which will be more than enough for all games. If you love games go for an FX chip and not a dual core (Fx-55 or if you can afford it the FX-57). Will be interesting to see how the PS3 compares to my setup as it's supposed to have more than 2x the power of twin 6800 Ultra's. I guess as the PS3 will run in much lower resolutions than any self respecting PC, so the workload will be much less letting the GPU concentrate on swish graphical effects. The upside of a console I guess. Will love to see the day when console's can run the same res as PC's through a monitor (and I don't mean HDTV which is no where near 1600 X 1200).

Your viewpoints are well founded in alot of respects, but your information and understanding is terrible. Stop throwing in things like "the xbox 360 has 256 gigs and the ps3 2 teraflops" because I've already stated it's not true.

The Xbox 360 has around the same system bandwidth, not 256 GB/s. That is the speed onboard a measly 10MB EDRAM daughter board (Microsoft need to do something quick to make the system look decent, and they chose something the av. person would know jack about, so they could lie about it.). WOW, the EDRAM can commune with itslef at 256GB/s, whoopdy-damn-do. That's like telling someone that your internet connection is 1000mbps because that's how fast your computer in the other room can transfer stuff to your other 30 feet away.

It sounds so stupid to anyone who knows anything about it.

The $300 Xbox 360 will NOT come with a HDD. The $400 accessory bundled one will. Neither will the PS3, but at least it's a $400 piece of silicon.

The XBox 360 doesn't have jack squat except microsoft and Halo backing, that's a fact when analyzed from an unbiased third party scientific perspective.

One more thing, that rig is being raped of it's potential with that 3700+, holy crap, you'd get the same performance out of one 7800 GTX OC and that CPU. If you want to open up your performance (For that kind of SLI) you need at least the FX-57 if not the 4800+ X2. That's is the biggest bottle neck in a performance computer I've ever seen. What, are you using some Kingston valueram too? Throw the X2 in there too, and your non-ECC RAM is the next step to anything. You have to build the whole system, not a couple of amazing GPUs.

PS3 is equel overall with 360 and we relly must wait and see withch will perform better in gameplay... just beacuse somthing is said in the specs dosent mean it will always live up to expectations. i remember ps2 and there hi-res clips when it came out and playin it i got tired waitin for a level to load... unfortunitly i think the 360 is goin to kill the market for 2005/2006 because it is coming out as a holiday relese and PS3 is comin out spring. Most kids are impatiant and few are going to wait for the Ps3 to come out and have to wait for birthdays, Christmas 06 ,Etc to get one. Just as xbox got killed by ps2 because of a erlier relese the ps3 is goin to get owend by xbox360.

Ps. Just because you have many games lined up dosent mean they will all be good i gareentee over half of those 15,000 games will be garbage or out sold on the shelves... Walmart dosent have enoguh space in there electronics department for 15,000 ps3 games.

so reason?[or should i say dad][lol] think the x2 is better for gaming then the fx-57 i heard also that the x2 was only good for playing music and data not gaming only because thats what i live for.also the game killzone for the ps3 looks amazing, but so does gears of war.i think the games will make the machine. if the games suck the system will suck. plain and smiple...later on

 

Reasons? I opted for the 3700+ purely from a money point of view. As games rely mainly on the GPU for the graphics I went all out on them. Sure the processor is not the fastest but it's overclocked and can almost match a 4000+. I would see more gains with an FX chip but there is no real requirement to have one of those just yet. If you want to stay on topic don't reply to an off topic post ;oD. Anyway.....FX57 is on it's way. I'll post something in the PC Hardware forum when i get it. And no, I don't have vlaue ram. Okay back to topic, sorry guys.

Nintendo is up to something, dont forget that they are the most experienced, as they were the first with the NES, and simply made room for Sony by kicking Sega out of the Market. Next to that, sega could have made it, the Dreamcast wasnt bad at all, only they had the wrong release date, and things werent right at all. Nintendo is making so much money right now out of the DS, since recently they revealed that the DS sold twice as much as the PSP(dont know how, PSP was an incredible strong and good competitor). Either Nintendo has kept some details of the Revolution behind, or is going to let this ''console war''(to give it a name ^^) pass by, and prepare for the next one(oooh and there wil be a next one). As for now, I wonder if Microsoft is going to make incredible profit, hearing that Sony wont. As someone said before, people are prepared to buy the product, even when it is 500, but there is a limit, if Sony uppers the price to make profit, it could cross the limit, cause Im not going to buy a PS3 for lets say: 550-650 dollars. if I can get an xbox360 that is equel to the PS3, and that for far less money.

 

Nintendo's target audience has always been a lot younger than Sony's and Microsoft. But this means Nintendo have got that share of the market covered. I just think that they really need to up their game right now as they have been flagging behind ever since N64, despite it's success in the East and of course the US. They have always been different and never one's to follow what the market dictates, I just hope this won't be their undoing.

Nintendo has been trying to gain back the Bigger adience, by releasing more shooters and less mario, but those things wil never change, Nintendo wil always gain the younger adience as you said.

stil weird, if you look back to the history, Nintendo did a good job, I dont think they wil just leave it by this, and letting this appotunity slip like that, cause the revolution hassnt released a single thing, no Hardware schemes, I havent seen a list of games, nothing, maybe only when you search incredible hard, I Hope that the revolution has a nice suprise for us, you never know, maybe they just stay behind to observe the consumers/market, reactions, what people like and dislike, and now adjust the revolution to it.

 

Yeah and the very name Revolution sounds like it might change the way we look at console's. How? I've no idea but Nintendo have never been a company to give something a flashy name just for the sake of it and they certainly don't rest on their laurels. I think (hope) they will surprise us all once again.

i agree if you add it up the 360 will be like $700 IF YOU WANT TO USE LIVE AT ITS BEST i mean come on and then you need an hdtv to play it or a with component video things and not 3 which are usally expensive

Actual performance will be no reflection of sales. There is just too much propaganda on both sides for the average, and even hard core gamers, consumer to understand.

In the end, you get what you pay for, this is the easiest way for me to put it. The PS3 is $400, and $400 worth of hardware, and is going to perform like $400. The Xbox 360 is $300 (The regular package equivalent to the PS3's package, no accessories and no HDD.), and $300 worth of hardware, and is going to perform like $300.

There is novels of technological analysis, that without even having the consoles to benchmark, it is extremely evident the PS3 is outstandingly stronger. Not only that, Microsoft has to lie up and down to you, just to make it seem equal.

For all those who come in saying that the 360 is the better hardware, the answer in no. I realize my posts are redundant in some respects, but that's because someone always comes in right after and says it's better. Honestly, stop doing that.

Go to the Offcial PC Building Thread and look for my name for that CPU descision. In short, the X2 is the better choice. And it just dropped almost $200 in price to $880, pricegrabber.com If your too lazy to go to that thread, it's because games are going multi-threaded in coming months.

 

I see some compare these new consoles with PCs, well, dont forget that PCs wil always be far more software free, and FAR more editable. You can do more then a PC then playing games and surf the net, although thats all Im doing rite now...... ^^

 

WOW Playstation fans piss me off, playstation established a fanbase with PS1 long before the xbox was released, microsoft had to compete with the next generation of sony consoles. I think that is a big reason why sony outsold xbox. I did find the xbox to be a much better console for many reasons. Ethernet port, hard drive, 4 controller ports. But the close minded playstation @$$holes knocked it without giving it a chance. This time around it will probably be much more equal. They should hook up and make one enormous super console, that way everyone will stop b1tch1ng about games. most playstation games are garbage and most of the good ones they have are also available for xbox. all those screen shots and video you have seen of the PS3 have been rendered i.e Killzone. I doubt it will look likre that on its release. Give it a couple years and the games will kick ass over what the release dtae games look like as they will have bettter use of the software etc.
Also, why would anyone buy a PSP? i live in new zealand and they cost $460!!!! A new PS2 costs $275.

And what do y'all think of the PS3 control pad? Looks a bit weird to me. The PS2 cp was the best of any console to date.
