I'm talking about under and side of it theres nothing on top. Without the flash you can't see much of anything.

i applied two little dabs on each one and rubbed it in with a sandwich bag over my finger. Then i just barely bent the metal strips (barely) just a little. the first attempt to fix is when my fan got really loud and i shut it off and then got the ylod. The second attempt is still yet working great. played it for about three hours today and gonna play tonight to, also i done the new 2.70 update after the fix.

hi guys and thankyou colin for your excellent walkthrough guide on how to fix my ylod! it was about a week ago my stopped working! a couple of days earlie my fan started makin a real loud noise, i new something wasnt right as my computer just shut down! i was playing socom and thought it was the games fault as it has a few problems, so i just swithched it back on and it worked fine again for another day! then the next day it happened again, the fan went really loud and then bam my ps3 shut down, only this time it wouldnt start and i got the green, yellow then red flashing light, it hasnt worked since. so last night i was searching for a cure after i heard it could be the power pack (if thats what it is called) so bought a new one fitted that and still the YLOD! i was gutted! but once i found this thread i thought i had nothing to lose, so today i went out and bought all the equipment needed for your guide and hey presto here i am. im not sure if its gonna work yet as i am typing this while the first reflow process is cooling, i will to the second reflow stage let that cool and then hopefully it will work! i will repost in around 30 minutes and im praying it works because i do not want to pay sony £150! robbing bast**ds!!

    thanks

well thank you very much! this topic is now my favourite ever! followed the guide every step and it worked first time! downloaded the firmware update and no shut down, over heating or anything! was running about 30 mins! then when i put it on a little later i was playing socom for 2 hours straight and not a single problem! fingers crossed it stays the same for a good while!

oh and i also bought a fan for extra cooling which should help!

thanks again colin and everyone else for your imput!

    FCUK SONY, ROBBING BARSTOOLS!

There sometimes is a little rubber spacer or filler that can get in front of the green blue diode
So I would check to see if that's the case

    Hi everyone.

First of all, sorry for my English I'm from Hungary.

Thank you very much gilksy for the video guide! My Ps3 is a 60Gb model bought in June 6 2007. It was kept horizontal and in a place that has good airflow. I admit it ran a lot, and I kept switched on and off everyday 4-5 times... it's been 4 months since the YLOD. I will do the reflow in the weekend. It maybe a silly question, but can it be estimated how long will my PS3 is going to work after the reflow?

    Thanks in advance

    Endru

could you reball without taking heat sink off?

Also, did you use a heat gun or a hot air tool?

Why did you not use any flux?
    thanks
    great video

    1) no
    2) heatgun
    3) only need to use flux if it fails again!
for the first reflow there should be enough flux left in the solder paste to reflow!

The videos are great! Brilliant! It does seem like the first 17 seconds or so of the videos after part 1 are missing sound (unless that is intentional?).

You make the thermal paste spreading process look so easy. I think though that's because I use arctic silver and it is must thicker/stickier and a lot more difficult to spread.

Speaking of that, so basically every time I make a new attempt to reflow, I have to remove the thermal paste, right? I've already gone through two bottles and it's starting to become a costly affair. I don't see anyway to scrap it off and reuse it. :(

Anyway, THANK YOU for the videos. Like I said, brilliant! Cheers!
