I would try improving the cooling of both cell and rsx chips... open it up, clean and put some arctic silver... see if that works.

I've tried three more times of reflowing both the CPU and GPU and have been unsuccessful. I have not been able to even recreate the 5-8 seconds before YLOD'ing that I had after one of my previous attempts.

I am wondering if I should some how try applying light pressure to each of the chips while they are hot? I note someone who used a hair dryer did that previously had success.

I am just worried that applying light pressure will wrap the board? Or are there any other dangers (other than burning myself?).

I really want to avoid sending it in and either paying $75 to the eBay company and run the risk of it not working, and can't afford to pay Sony $150 plus shipping (although that would get me a working machine for sure).

    Never give up! ;)

I dont believe ***Light pressure*** would warp the board. Does the cpu and gpu have bolts or screws holding the heatsinks if there is any( as you can tell havent had to break down my ps3 that far yet)

Just to clarify, after you reflow, are you reapplying a thermal paste like arctic coolant? Do you hear your fan come on when you turn it on, and more importantly, when it turns green? The fan should probably be on "high" at that point.

YLOD and your problem are directly related -- both are a result of overheating. Your gpu *is* still overheating but for some reason your ps3 is NOT YLOD'ing as it should to protect the chips.

So in effect, no, you have not already fixed the YLOD problem. You've just somehow (and I'm sure unintentionally) bypassed it.

So let's try this again...is your fan working?!?!?!?

    Hi everyone....
I got the ylod on my system about 3 weeks ago... while playng a game (not sure if i can say the name) anyway i found this thread really intresting thats the reason i just register, anyway i tried to reflow my cell and my gpu, using a hair dryer (for about 2 min setted to low) and my ps3 finally started again, i was so happy almost on tear ^^' (after 3 weeks trying to fix it) when around 5 minutes after the bad news that the f****ng red blinking light appeard again and now im back to the old situation... im about to buy a heat gun, and i just need to know how "hot" do it have to be... cause i dont want to burn it and i have no idea... so if someone can give me some directions... i'll be more then thankfull.... thanks in advance :d

Hi, i follow the guide like others but it didnt do anything same blue then yellow then red light. Also, my heat gun have only two option Low temperature setting:250 C and high temperature setting : 450 C .I tried to reflow with 250 C by 20 sec like said in the pdf but it dont give any results so i wanna know if i have to tried with more time or i tried the high temperature setting at 450 with less time ?

Guys!!! It worked on my ps3!!!

I followed the colin's guide and my ps3 fixed from the YLOD. Well, I made a mistake on my first run, I just forgot to plug the fan on the mother board, but the second one worked fine, like a magic!!!

Let's see for how long it will survive until the next YLOD, I am saying that because I can hear a big noise fan, so I don't know maybe it is nothing or maybe I should change that fan.

    Thanks a lot Colin!!!

    hello m8
colin here, just to point out the guide says 350 degrees NOT 250!

450 degrees is ok but at that temp youve got to be carefull
hense the guide is slightly lower for safty!!!

    any ways well done
    spread the word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
looks like the revolution has started.....stick that in your pipe and smoke it sony!!!!!!!!!!

Colin bro, i really need your help....
i reflowed my ps3 3 times like your great guid indicate, but i always get the same problem, it start greatly... and i can see and hear via hdmi perfectly, i also got to reformat my hdd... then it restart... i see the xmb and after like 30 sec the red light start to blink again... approximatley always after a total work of 5 minutes... the air come out soo cold and the fan is working perfectly.. i reflow the chips in both faces for around 20 sec... my question is : Since the ps3 start normally, and i guess cpu and gpu are working fine, do i need to increase the reflowing time?
My heat gun is set to 700 F (more then 350 C), should i try a reflow of 40 sec? Please answer me i need some advise and apparently you are the only one that can help me....

    Thanx in advice
