Right, so, the last time I used my Gamecube's BBA was more than a year ago (I remember ACL 1.2 coming out, that's pretty long). It worked fine then, but I'm having some problems now. I'm using Phoenix 2.50, and that works fine, but streaming things is a bit of a snag. Since I use a laptop, I have an ethernet port and a wireless card, but I only have one free hardwire port in my wireless router, which the Gamecube is using. So, I can successfully stream through the wireless card to the router, then through the router to the Gamecube. Problem is, though, it loses packets and crashes pretty often. Now, I HAD a crossover setup working way back when, and I know for a fact it worked better than the router method I have now because I played through all of Cubivore and Star Fox Assault with only about three total crashes (compared to now, when I can't even get past the title screen in Paper Mario or the intro FMV in Crystal Chronicles). Everything is set up fine, I'm 99% positive, but PSO keeps giving me an error 018 - connection attempt failed, check to make sure your cable and BBA are set up correctly - on the loading screen before it gets to the "lobby" and loads up a DOL. I'm thinking it's the crossover cable I'm using, as it's the same one I used back when, except pulled out of a drawer after sitting there for that long. So, do you think the cable just wore out, or is it one minute thing I'm completely forgetting?
If you're trying to stream through a wireless network, that's your problem right there. Wireless suffers from an absolutely HORRIBLE amount of packet loss, even if the router is sitting right beside the laptop.
make sure you have the right IP addresses registered, then. 99% of the time, it's because someone overlooked that simple but key part. They just didn't put the right address in, and it's trying to connect somewhere else.
I found out it's not the cable, because another one still doesn't work. So, I'm doing something wrong somewhere else, then. Computer-side things: http://assortedfruitchews.com/stuff/desk-connection.jpg PSO-side: Manually set IP Do not automatically disconnect IP address: 192.168.1.32 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 192.168.1.100 Primary DNS: 192.168.1.100 Error message: (No.018) Connection attempt failed. If you have a broadband adaptor, make sure that your network cable is properly connected to the broadband adaptor and that the broadband adaptor settings are setup properly. As far as I know, everything is how it should be, but I'd be grateful if somebody could point out otherwise.
Okay, now things are just plain messed up. Still getting the same error as I always have, but I realized something: when you try to connect and get a Hunter's License, PSUL recognizes the attempt and shows "Served DNS query from 192.168.1.32..." Yet it still won't work properly. God.
I did some searching and noticed L-Burna had the same problem as I do now. I went out and bought an official Nintendo memory card since I was using a MadCatz one, and that didn't fix it; neither did any of the 10/100Mb half/full duplex combinations. So, yeah, still nowhere.
I set it to 10 Half Duplex and used one of the official nintendo memcards and it worked.Set up this settings first before you continue: PSO Side: IP Adress:192.168.1.32 Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0 Default Gateway:192.168.1.100 Primary DNS server:192.168.1.100 PC Side: IP Adress:192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0 Default Gateway:leave blank Now Cubesoft Phoenix has a built in PSUL or PSOLoad save utility to make it easier instead of doing it manually.Just pick one PSUL or PSOLoad in the options menu of Phoenix then click on the Save User Data to Memcard button. It will bring up the dos prompt saying waiting for connections. If you have a crossover cable hooked to your BBA adapter and your PC it should send PSUL or PSOLoad and save it on your memcard. Also make sure you are not running any other connection while you are attempting this, because you don't want to cross connections.
Yes, I've been doing that all down to the letter, but the problem is PSUL and PSOload just won't send. PSO just gives me an error, even thiugh everything is filled out correctly, crossover cord in place, it just doesn't work.
Did it save, because this is the most important part.Once you create your PSO character and follow through to the online server it should say something of the lines you just mentioned. It will skip the online server and save automatically to your memcard.Once it saves, then you can start up your PSO character and stream from there on.Let me know all the directions you used thus far, because I am positive I can help you out.PSUL or PSOLoad are suppose to just save on your memcard first, once this accomplished you won't need to do this anymore.
Alright, this is what I have: - wireless router: four hardwire ports (one of them leads to GCN/PS2, rest used throughout house) - laptop: PCMCIA wireless card (used for pretty much everything), ethernet port - Gamecube: PSO, BBA, Nintendo memory card, all hookups and stuff - CAT5 crossover cable which DOES work between computers, it's been tested I've saved the access code/password settings already, so that's not a factor. Now, this is what I CAN do to play backups: - hook GCN into network - set PSO to connect to wireless card address, 192.168.0.3 (only needs to be done once) - turn on PSOload/PSUL and disc server, either streamlined by Phoenix or manually command prompt, either way works - make character (only done once, duh) - go online, connects to PSOload/PSUL, loads DOL - stream game - probably crash ten minutes later from lost packet See, what I'd LIKE to do is use that crossover cable to stream things, so I wuldn't have to worry about packets being lost through the wireless factor. This is what happens: - hook crossover cable to GCN and PC - disable wireless connection, set PC address - set PSO to connect to PC address, 192.168.1.100 (only needs to be done once) - turn on PSOload/PSUL and disc server, either streamlined by Phoenix or manually command prompt, either way works - make character (only done once, duh) - go online - (No.018) Connection attempt failed. If you have a broadband adaptor, make sure that your network cable is properly connected to the broadband adaptor and that the broadband adaptor settings are setup properly. - shut off PSOload/PSUL and disc server, turn off GCN, pout in a corner So, I don't really know what to do.
Use an internal ethernet card to connect don't use wireless, this is your problem. You are going to have problems unless you connect directly to your Cube.
...I don't think you understand. I want to use a crossover cord instead of the wireless card, but it isn't working. It WORKS when I use the wireless card, it DOESN'T WORK when I use the cable. That's my problem.
Well so what you are saying is you connected your crossover cable directly from the GC BBA to your ethernet card in your PC right, but it won't recognize the connection. If this is the case then you probably have a bad ethernet card then, because you said it yourself the crossover cable works.
I tested it hooking the laptop up to two different computers, and it worked both times, so I don't think the jack itself is the problem.
That really is weird bro,I'm not sure what is messing with the connection.I was wondering could it be the Plus version or are you positive it is PSO 1&2 the older version, because the Plus version has a protection scheme. We pretty much went through all of your equipment and everything seems to be working properly. Also let me know what the color of your ends are on your crossover cable. If the ends are right, then it has to be something in your configurations.
