I have read the topic on the top of the page several times. I started doing this about 2 weeks ago. I am using GCN-Ripper to rip the games. I have tried GCDisk Server and pheonix 1.3.7beta. I got Pheonix 2.5 from maxconsole but it is just one .exe and when I run it, it makes a file and then does nothing. Using GCDisk Server, I can get the loader up(Starcube 1.x i think) but when I hit start, i get about 10 dots before it hangs. I have messed around with the delay and freq and nothing happens.

I know most people say Pheonix is the best and I would like to get 2.5 to work if someone could help me on that. Also, I would like to know what the best loader and gui are? thx in advance

Bruv, use the search feature, i asked this back in the day. Phoenix 2.5b works when you get some more files to add to it. look around or search "boki2002" in the writter search box. The topics will come up!

    http://www.freewebtown.com/make86/files/needed_phoenix_files.zip
There are the needed files, from my very own website:D

I have been on these forums about half year, and these questions are asked several times, someone admin would make sticky of all of those links, Phoenix(and needed files), updated streaming guides, DVD burning, etc.

I have those neccessary files now but I am still getting the runtime error 523(?) about not having VB5DB.dll. I read that i should get Phoenix 2.3 and just compy over the .exe for 2.5. I also read that GC-Sim was way better than Phoenix but I cannot find a place to download that at all, so should i even try or is Phoenix actually pretty good?

I dont suggest streaming games... use streamaple bios that u can boot backups from DVD with PSO.
Here's a good program that has all those loaders:
    http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=6959

Al u ever need in playing games and backupping are that and ngcdevripper.

go to microsoft and find all the visual basic runtime files, intall them all. then all you need for phoenix 2.5b is the main .exe and the database file(dont really need the db, but it helps)
use GCOM v1.01 for ripping and Phoenix 2.5b for streaming (GC Simulator in phoenix has worked for 100% of my files so far)

Thanks for the DB help. I got Phoenix working now. I used GC Sim and then it comes up on the GC, the Starcube logo appears and at the bottem it says "BBA Speed: 100mbit Full Duplex". Then I hit start and it says "please wait" and then "Initialization Error". I think that is why it always stoped at about 9 dots on the other loaders. I dont think the freq/delay will change anything so what would the problem be?

    *edit*
Just for an update on the situataion, I read on another forum I should switch from 100mbit to either 10half or 10 full on the actual loader screen. I tried both and neither worked.

when gc sim says initialisation error, it means it can't find 192.168.1.100 (your computer) gc sim looks for this address only. if you are using a dirrerent ip, there is a perfect and simple way to use both ip's on the same NIC

    (This is under Windows XP)
Open the Control Panel --> Network Connections
Right-Click the connection to your Gamecube and click ‘Properties’
Under ‘This connection uses the following items’, click ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’, then properties
    Click ‘Advanced’
Under ‘IP Addresses’, click ‘Add’, and enter 192.168.1.100. Press Tab and then ‘Add’

make sure in phoenix options your ips are set right too(and open any firewalls to these IPs)

As for BAck to the Topic:
Phoenix 2.5 only comes with the .ExE, you need to download a Previous version such as 2.4 and use the install exe, after that is installed drag the 2.5.exe into the Phoenix Directory and it will automatically update your version to 2.5

If your new to this like I am I suggest you stick only with Phoenix for now dont screw around with other loaders, rippers, streamers ect. Why? Primarily because most of them are crap and will give you a headache before they ever stream your game, furthermore they dont seem to work properly and there is no support example:

I see so many people claiming use this or this instead, so ok you try it out dosent work your back here posting a question yet none of those people are around to answer.

Phoenix Is the best solution for any newbie on the scene because it backs-up every time perfectly and it loads almost all the games and it can easily be counted on unlike other programs such as GCsim that works when it wants to otherwise gives initialization error that might i note the developers couldnt even figure out!

At http://www.koteshi.de/gamecube/, down the bottom of the page is a rar called 'Gamecube backup kit'. within this, there is phoenix 2.5b. just two files, the exe and a database(dont need the other two files)
With these two files it worked perfect for me. make sure you have the visual basic runtime files(microsoft)

While phoenix seems nice, it is just a collective of different peoples tools, wrapped in a nice GUI. half the tools are old and outdated and most dont even work for me(ripper, shrinking etc), the only thing i use phoenix for is streaming(GCSim just happens to be the default loader)
When everything is configured correctly, it does work great for streaming though
The ripper in Phoenix did not work for me 3 out of the 4 times I tried it, and when it did work, it was way too slow. There is a MUCH better ripper, GCOM v1.01 by softdev. No Support you say? Try at tehskeen.net(softdev's home), namely http://www.tehskeen.net/forums/showthread.php?t=492&highlight=GCOM

im just trying to help people get the best and fastest solutions around

Thanks guys for all the help. I read(in the original guide) about the cut scene slow down and it is quite jerky. Also, I have some slow down in-game. Baten Kaitos, for example, slowed down before every battle, after every battle, and on the map screen. Other than tat, just a little jerk every 5 minutes or so. I was wondering if there have been any breakthroughs to fix this or if I would have to do the hard mods to get near perfect playback?

These slowdowns occur because of the fact that you are streaming the entire game through the BBA. It just cant serve data quick enough to keep up with game speed. what you'll need to do in order to play games like normal is to get some Mini DVD-Rs, burn your games to them, and use a bootcode changer(anaconda, GCoS, etc) to read them.

    Two questions.
    1) What is the cheapest way of hard modding? Not neccesarly the cheapest hardware, but is there a way to use CD-Rs or DVD-Rs. I do not have a DVD Burner as of now and LinFox said I could use Mini-DVDs but that sounds more expensive then modding the GC to read full DVDs.

    2) What is the easiest hard mod to install? I have a fear that dust will get in the GC when I open it, me messing up and destroying the GC, and stuff like that so easy instructions would help.

easiest way for you right now is to get a dvd burner. mini-dvds are the exact same size as cube disks so no case mods needed. You could get a full-size DVD case mod though if you only have regular sized DVDs.
You dont need any modchips to read DVD-Rs, just a suitable loader .dol file.

any modchips involve soldering, etc inside the cube, and sending them to a pro to be installed costs even more money. there are guides to installing modchips around the place, so if you're handy with a soldering iron you'll be right

belive me there is more dust inside your cube than outside right now. its reletively safe taking your cube apart, i just did it 4 days ago...its got no screws in it now and its turned on running fine. Just follow a tutorial and it's easy
