PSOload 2.0a locks up after "Served DNS Query..."

Hello, was hoping one of you might be able to help me.
I just recently got a gc, picked up a bba off of ebay ($31), got a copy of what I thought was PSO 1&2, but is actually PS0 1&2 plus, but according to what i read, that shouldn't matter, as the psload takes care of the dns stuff.

I setup my laptop to be the server, I changed the network port setting to 10 Mbits, auto HDorFD, used a crossover cable, with an extension adaptor as my crossover cable wasn't long enough to reach between them.
I've done everything that the tutorials say, I set up my pc to:
    192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0
    10 Mbit connection

the pso i booted, set the network up:
    192.168.1.32 255.255.255.0
    GW: 192.168.1.100

made a char, put in 1's as the serials and stuff (didn't get a code with the game i bought, but i read that it doesn't matter), the game does everything the tutorials says it will.

on the pc, i had hit psoload -s like i was supposed to, it was "waitting for connections..."
until i do what i'm supposed to the gc, then it says:
    "Served DNS query from 192.168.1.32..."
and then that's it, nothing more. the gc then restarts the game because i hit the start button, but it never says connected or done, and if i start an online game like it says to do to test it, i just end up doing the last parts again (the serials numbers part, then on to having to hit the start button)

I do have the firewall turned off on my pc. oh, it's running windows 2k3 hacked to a workstation (using the xpconv program), but i don't have anything special on. I will double check to make sure it doesn't have a dns server or active directory or anything like that. it shoudln't, but i will check anyways.

hmm, where it says I should get "Error 100 (Line Disconnected)"
    i actually get "(No. 101)
Attempt to connect to the server has failed. It is possible that the server is undergoing maintenance. The line will be disconnected.
    PRESS START."

At this time, before i hit start, i noticed that my pc says served DNS query...

so i hit START, and well, the game starts over, but nothing happens on my pc.

any ideas on what i can be doing wrong?

    thanks

oh, this is the tutorial i've been following. maybe i need one that is more uptodate with using the pso 1&2 plus edition?

    http://cgfm2.emuviews.com/gc/psotut.php

I realised that my mc wasn't empty when i start this, so i decided to delete everything on it and try it again.

Deleting everything and doing it over didn't change anything, still just sits there after the "servered dns query from..."

I hope the bba's not bad.

I thought maybe a service was a problem, saw that i had a dns client running, so i turned it off, didn't change anything.

I ran tcpview (from sysinternals) to see what ports psoload was using, and it's: 9000, 9001, 9003, 9100, 9200, 9201, and "domain"

Also, it is disconnecting the connection for a sec after i hit start on my controller.

guess i need to setup a computer to run 98, or i guess i could just reconfigure my media computer.

well, if anyone has any ideas on my problem, i'd be glad for some help or suggestions to try.

    thanks

It's because you're using PSO+. Support for it was never a strong point.

ahh, i had hoped they had fixed that, since it supports it.

What i will try next is using a hub and normal ethernet cable, then a router, and hopefully it will work by then.

I could take the game back, because the package they had it in just says "Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2" and since they keep the disks behind the counter, you have know way of know until you buy it.

Guess I need to hunt down better instructions and pictures of a homemade SD adaptor.

plus i need to try it on a xp machine, just in case.
oh, should i have the network adaptor set to half duplex or full duplex? I have it on 10T (auto H/F duplex) mode right now, shouldn't be a problem, but figured i'd might as well set it exactly.

I need to put feedback on my ebay buy, but i don't know if the bba works or not. they see each other, at least, i get the dns request. but still, that's not connecting up.

i need to find someone else who had the plus version and see how they managed it.

Nintendo patched the PSO Plus version dns server,so the PSO Plus version will not work unless you have the original PSO version. If you can find it look for the Max Drive Pro for GameCube or the SD card adapter, cause finding the PSO original version is very rare now and costs alot of money.I will say this though the ultimate solution is getting a modchip, but no matter which way you go you will end up spending some money.

oh, man, thats lame. Guess i just wasted $31.

but if it's just about sega locked down what address to use, i can change that in my hosts file, so i guess thats someething else i can give a try.

Guess i will probably just work on a sd adaptor.
All in all it's not like theres a bunch of software i want to play on the gamecube, and i can pick them up used for cheap after awhile, mainly since the new systems about to get released.

anyways, such is life i guess. maybe i'll get lucky and actually find the correct pso, maybe i'll get some settings working, most likely i will ignore it since i've been busy trying to get ps2 games to the hd and working.

How about using another game, like Animal Crossing, i can get that still. I know there's an animal crossing loader, i've just never seen any tutorial that used it, they all are for PSO.

I've since then found out some more info.
There's some people who hacked teh PSO server so they can host games, for all the different versions (GC, PC, DC, Xbox). They also show you how to connect using the plus editions & III edition.
They also have a couple of utils for making the AR codes to access whatever address you want.

So, unless they patched the plus version to not use the exploit, then using the AR codes overwrite where they hardcoded the ISP address.
It wouldn't work over my normal network, so i'm going to setup a special network for it. The other thing is, even though PSOload 2.0a says it' supports all the different versions, i don't think it actually has a working DNS server in it, since before it was stopping at the dns request. plus the -d command doesn't work (supposed to shut off psoload's dns server). I also downloaded the PSO server software, since i has a dns "server" that the person made so people could connect to it.

Going to try that later, right now, it's a smoke run i have to do so i can make 4:20 okay. =)

I haven't taken the time to try it yet. Supposedly in the beginning of december someone was going to let me use their original pso, so i put it off.

I have a question though, Can unmodded gc still read mini dvd-r's? I thought GCos was all I needed to do, but I always see posts where people say the gamecubes can't read normal disks.
