I am doing some research before I purchase an external dvd+rw drive for my laptop I have been looking on ebay at the HP420ve or the HP300e versions and they seem like they would suit my needs. Does anyone have any cautions about them?

I am currently using dvd shrink, dvd43 and nero to rip and burn. Will these still work with this brand? I ask this because in the ebay description the seller states that the unit (HP420ve)is brand new, but he cannot use it with nero, so he is selling it. Why wouldn't it work with nero? I appreciate any advice/input/suggestions Thanks.

there is no reason why the drive will not work with nero the only problem is your computer is it usb1 or 2 if it is usb 1 and the drive is usb 2 it will take a long time to copy a disc new drives are USB 2 so check your laptop and see if it is USB1 or 2

how old is your laptop most new units have usb 2 you can find out by going to control panel and double click on systems click on hardware tab you will see a tab marked device manager click on that and divice manager will open up scrool down till you see universal serial bus controller double click it and more info will open if you see enhanced usb controler then you have usb 2
