Q6600 Overclocking Results Many people are overclocking Q6600s so now would be a good time to start sharing results as i cant seem to find a site enywhere, so post your results here and we can see who gets the highest clock speed and the lowest temps. Post up 1. Core speed 2. Bus speed 3. Temps 4. Motherboard make and model 5. Cooler you are using 6. And a screen cap of Orthos running for 6 hours in small FFTs mode. I would suggest that screen shots also include a shot of Orthos running 'not stopped' after 6 hours minimum, that way proven stable OCs are identified seperately from those which look okay but fail to pass serious stress testing. I'll post my initial clocks tomorrow, but will have to wait for a test to run before posting some Orthos I'll also ensure BIOS is listed and temps at idle and under full load using core temp.
ok i have Orthos runing at the moment but its only for dualcore and it shows the default spec of the cpu

You need to run 2 instances at the same time and set the affinity to the 2 pairs of cores on each instance. Also set small FFTs. Mine shows the speed of the cpu bbut will only show what is set at boot up, not what is achieved through tools such as clockgen after boot. If people are going to use that then it negates the OC as stable IMO as it can't be achievved from bootup. Clockgen is fine for running superpi etc... but not for giving a true reading of the speed of system.
I've binned using Orthos ATM It seems to run 2x OK on Vista 64 but in XP32 it keeps getting errors on one instance even if the PC is dropped back to default. I had heard that there were bugs with it on quads but had never seen it. I've now switched to Prime95, it apparently works as good if not better for stressing and works fine from the off on quads.

Anyone using Prime95 will need to get one of the later versions, I am using 25.6 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Prime95_d4363.html Earlier versions don't support quad core straight off, whereas this one will auto stress all 4 cores, all you need to do is change default option to small ftts. Ran mine today for about 4 hours, then I caused the power to trip off when I powered up a compressor I'd just rebuilt. Will give it another go tomorrow.
I've finally found the time to start another test run. Currently I'm just setting it at my default 24/7 setings of 3.6Ghz. I failed to get any test runs past 5 mins yesterday, due to updating to F8 BIOS, my board really did noit like that BIOS at all, even a stock 2.4Ghz speed and everything set at default the PC could not pass prime95. As long as everything goes smoothly I'll get the first post of results either tonight or tomorrow (time dependent). So far its only been up for 1hour so I'll keep it going until at least 6hours have run and passed testing. Currently 52`C on the 4 cores with 46`C on the motherboard sensor. When I get time I will invest in and fit some decent watercooling to the NB, as that is currently holding me back on the FSB. In the winter with no heating on I could boot and test at 500FSB without any issues, but that speed now only allows a boot and basic tests as its getting too hot now. I may also go back to F3 BIOS as that allowed far higher fsb that the F7 I am currently using. Anyone else got any results yet? I saw some promising screen shots earlier, would like to know if anything has proven stable yet.
I knew I should have started at night and left it. 3 hours now (half way there) and still going, but with 4 cores running at 100% full time the PC is off limits as far as doing anything useful with it. Next post after 20:20 UK time when 6 hours is up.
Here is the results of today’s test, I did consider leaving it running all night but (whats the point)as it was it ran 100% stable at 3.6 GHz my normal 24/7 settings, this ran for just over 7 hours on Prime95 version 25.6. And here is the same test after stopping it 2 mins later with the results screen showing at 7hours 15 mins, all info should be on the screens. Basic Info: Motherboard Gigabyte GA X38 DQ6 Rev 1.0 BIOS F7 CPU: Intel Q6600 G0 Rev B Set at 1.5V in BIOS Running 1.47 under load FSB 1600 (400) CPU 3600 (400x9) Core temps at this speed 25`C at idle and 51`C under load CPU cooled by Swiftech Storm G4 Water Block, NB stock heat pipe with 40mm fan fitted. Memory 2GB Crucial Ballistix @1066 timing set by spd @2.15V I'll take it up to 3.8 Ghz at some point and post those results, I've ran it before at that speed 100% but it was at a colder ambient temperature. I'll wait till there’s some more input from other Q6600 overclockers until I do that, as it seems to have gone very quiet for now.

you could build that cheaper and with far better parts just ask one of the afterdawn lot and give them that that sort of cash thay will have a filed finding it all for u
You'd be advised to repost the question in the PC building thread, that way you'll get plenty of advise. 2 x 8600GTS BTW (total waste of money)looks like their just getting rid of old stock on that one. @mrcapdown Have you managed to get any stable benching done yet? Haven't seen any posts from anyone! Has no-one here got a stable overclock on a Q6600?
sorry BigDK i have not got eny yet been a bit preoccupied the the new cyborg mouse and msi HD3870 i got today but truth betold i need to get a new psu so i can get this thing stable its at 3.5 at the moment and its playing games fine but the test it might not be so good but i will let it run tonight and post tomorrow if i get the time
Hope you get the PSU sorted. I use a beast in my system (takes away any uncertainty) Prime95 etc... certainly push a system to its full limits.
Right now I've been running a Q6600 at 3.6Ghz for five days. It runs 3DMark and games fine. I haven't run orthos for 6 hours, I will when I get home and post the results.
